Be sure you know where your syrup came from.

The supply is good, so this should not affect prices, high as they are for the real stuff. Ontario also produces a good supply and some have said Ontario No. 1 is better.

I eat either Vermont Maple Syrup or artificial pancake syrup.

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... The thieves must have known what they were doing. They took a lot.

Maple syrup is very expensive here in Alberta. I couldn't live without it though, it's definitely better than any artificial syrup.

    It is about $12.00 per litre around here, so as a commodity It makes a grand item for the black market.

    Naturally, but use it sparingly. Your plate doesn't have to swim in syrup.

    Maple syrup is for more than pancakes. I used some the other day as a marinade for some chunks of fruit. Delicious and not too sweet. It also make great BBQ sauce in place of the brown sugar and has fewer calories too. The scent of the maple beats the daylights out of molasses.

    Heck, maple syrup is good just whipped into a glass of milk.

    Syrup black market...whaaaa? :boggle:

    It must be comparably cheap around here, because I certainly haven't heard of any wayward syrup thieves. Perhaps my city subsidizes maple syrup because they both have "maple" in their names.

    Upon further investigation, I found real maple syrup (it's legitimate; it has to made almost entirely from maple sap for them to label it maple) for an average of $5 a bottle at the Walmart by my house.

    Of course, who buys syrup at the store anymore when you can just download it for free online?

    Canadian maple syrup is 100% maple sap, no preservatives. How big a bottle for $3 at Wal-Mart? I'll bet it is less than 250 ml.

    Vermont syrup I have to admit is pretty amazing. Too bad they don't have jack crap of it where I buy grocery's!. When I was up in quebec there syrup was pretty spectacular (yes I popped into a canadian supermarket I was curious lol!). I think the brand was called real canadian but i'm not sure for certain it was tasty though!.

    If I can't get 100% All Natural Pure Maple Syrup from Vermont then I don't buy an imitation. I know the real thing is expensive but the imitation is just a sugar syrup with flavoring. Mostly water and lack the nutritional value of true maple sap. I pay right at $10 for 12.5 oz.

    As has been stated, Maple Syrup is good for many things and I often use it in place of brown sugar when baking my yeast breads. For a treat and an energy boost there is nothing like eating a spoonful of Maple Syrup right out of the bottle. Let it rest on the tongue and savor the deep rich flavors that explode as the syrup warms. You don't get that from an imitation. :)

    So it's a commodity? I can't imagine it's a very liquid one :}

    But yeah, that's exactly the thing I wonder about. How will the thieves ever sell it? There must be relatively few syrup buyers out there, and right now I bet the authorities are scrutinizing every one of them.

    Or maybe it's being smuggled out of the country. Load it up and truck it, they'll do what they say can't be done...haul it down to Georgia, along with some Coors and a few circus elephants. Surely there will be a willing fence down there. If only ol' Sherriff Buford T. Justice doesnt get in on it first that is....
