Did you try deleting the roundabout and replacing it with a regular intersection to see if the roundabout is the issue?

Did you drag a piece of road (or street) across the avenue (before the ramp) for giving your sims an access to the other side?

"Complete" the interchange they're getting off at so they get off before, not after. In the MIS menu there's a RHW-2 to 2 perpendicular MIS splitter that'd fit perfectly at that interchange. Just experiment.

Maybe there is a lot of traffic on that avenue so he had to take the long way around.

lol i hate how stupid sims are when it comes to communing

ahhem back on topic

RHW has a larger capacity vs avenue witch is more appealing towards sims, i may be wrong about this

You really do have an improperly built interchange in the mix.

For the record, it's not the capacity that appeals to sims, leading to highway usage. It's the fact that it's faster. Remember that under the NAM Simulator, sims will take the fastest route, not the shortest route.

I originally suspected that it'd be that kind of case...

This is roughly the hierarchy of networks, excluding rail networks, from fastest to slowest: Highway/RHW > OWR > AVE/Road > Street. Highways and RHW are faster than OWR, which is faster than AVE. That's my hypothesis on such a convoluted route.

If you're really creative, you can make something even longer, but then it gets impractical...

If you think that's bad, check this out:

Everyone massively parks their car at the station and walk home all the way. And this only happens at the evening commute. In the morning, they all take their cars right from their homes. Do they have robo-cars in this city or something?

I think the problem is, that they can't acces the building. They have to be on the right side of the avenue, and I can't see a way for them to make a U-turn, if they choose to use the avenue. That's why their taking the RHW.

That's a very cool picture. :D

The requirement that the traffic simulator find the fastest route between residences and jobs applies only to the morning commute. For the evening commute, the only requirement is that there be a valid route from job to home.

As for how the cars get home on their own, robotic guidance sounds as good as anything to me.

Its because when going towards the junction to go onto the highway he is faced with a one-way road to get onto the junction rather than turning around, i'm guessing you're using the British/Japanese left hand side of the road so there is no way for the commuter to easily do a U turn, try adding a U turn spot just before the one way road.

Do fix up that interchange near one end. That's what's causing the problem.

As far as highways go in general, I far prefer NWM roads to them for use in town. Think about replacing that highway.
