Problem rendering new region maps

I posted in another thread about this as well but I am having problems rendering newly downloaded region maps. I'm following the instructions fairly well I think, and I have triple checked my processes, starting over from scratch each time. I am having a problem with the region image shown after rendering, and this occurs whether I use software or hardware rendering. (I am using a 3GB GTX 580, so that was a surprise.) The error - with that blue stripe at the bottom of large city tiles - appears every single time.

When I go into the city though - the city tile itself does not show any errors. Updating the city with development and saving that does not solve the problem, nor does adjusting the city tile edges.

i've hunted and hunted around, but haven't found anything other than several references to the step by step instructions for installing maps. Again, I've followed them closely. I have turned off my antivirus, any extraneous tasks, and have nothing open except the game when rendering. I even disabled my second monitor.

Thanks in advance for any assistance! I'm new to SC4 (2 months or so) and enjoy custom content a lot!

This is a known issue with large city tiles when rendering maps at higher resolutions - above 1600x1200. You can reduce your resolution and re-render the map or enter and re-save the affected cities to eliminate the effect.

Thanks to everyone here for the assistance. Reducing resolution did resolve the problem. I really appreciate it!

And though I am a big fan of mod content... I'm totally - TOTALLY - overwhelmed by the # of dependencies there are for custom content in SC4. I daresay it's toooooooooo many links to keep track of, have I installed this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and ......

I'm sure y'all have heard that a million times. But I just don't think I'm going to be able to get anything other than the maps going... *cowers in fear*

No need to be over-whelmed. Just be very selective - at least initially. Only get those items you think you will use. Also, not everything has dependencies, and the more popular items usually use the same ones. So once you have them, your done. It is also important to keep track of what you're putting in the Plugins. Having a system of arrangement will help. You can use folders and sub-folders in the Plugins for almost everything, so you can customize things in a way that makes it easy for you to know what you have. You might want to for some general information.

And you can always ask for assistance in the forums here.

    Enjoy your stay...

I have the exact same problem. Re entering the city and saving it does not solve the issue. Is this a new error? I have rendered huge maps previously, but lately it seems to be causing problems like this.

If I lower the resolution of the map, wouldnt I end up with a smaller region?

    Hi to all! :)

I've had the same problem of evilOlive, now resolved (thank you CaptCity ;) ) but now i've another problem (I think). Bad quality rendering. I show you the problem with two images:

San Franscisco Map (base map of the game) : ilinmb.png (great quality)

Seattle Ultra Detail Map (one of the most downloaded map of the exchange) : 358ynt2.jpg (bad quality) :(

I've the same quality with all the downloaded maps.

    Can be fixed this thing?

I'm not sure it's actually of any worse quality. What I do notice is that it has flatter coasts, less altitude variation, and no trees. The flatter coasts make the border between land and sea less defined. The map is rather flat, making for little change in ground texture. The lack of trees mean you can see the rather bland ground.

I think this last point might be the main reason the map looks like it's of lower quality. It should play fine though, and should look a lot better once you coat the landscape in a nice new forest.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

While this thread has not had a new post in a while, I have some additional information which may be of use on this subject for people who use 1920x1200 resolution monitors. From my testing with desktop shortcut command resolution selection, this is specifically an issue with the 1200 pixel vertical resolution, not with any 1600 to 1920 pixel horizontal resolution choice. I can run 1920x1080 no problem and this blue stripe rendering problem (with large tiles only) does not occur, and old rendering errors can be repaired in the usual fashion by entering the tile in Mayor mode and then saving on exit. So while 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 resolutions do indeed have this problem, the 1920x1080 resolution works correctly. However, when using 1920x1080 in full screen mode on a 1920x1200 monitor, the incorrect aspect ratio is perceptable. To a certain extent one can get used to it. But, I investigated various other resolutions to get maximum screen detail at the 1.6:1 aspect ratio of my monitor and found that the largest working resolution I could get the game to boot to which does not have this problem and that is selectable via a desktop shortcut is 1680x1050. The current desktop shortcut I use with Windows XP uses this command line: "C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32 -f -CPUCount:1
