You have discovered that CD media is not so permanent. Your best bet is to purchase the digital download version of Deluxe from Amazon or Gamersgate. Read the instructions carefully after you have done the download and be sure to save a copy of the folder containing the installer. Best to write it on a DVD. This version comes all patched and diskless.

Or you could use Steam or Xfire to download and buy. I like both, and its easy to boot. Maybe try cleaning the disc, I had a TINY, TINY, scratch and it would not install--washed the disc with a damp cloth and it worked perfectly.

The reason I did not suggest Steam is that they use a funny structure for the install, and Origin want to install some snoop ware. With Steam installations you may have trouble installing something that wants the standard structure.

Now maybe it's just my inherent dislike for 'control' things that I have no control over, but I purchased my digital copy of SC4 from Amazon and it came with a CD Key to register it. No scratched discs ever again but best of all...no having to log into Steam just to run the game. Now, truthfully, I've only had one dealing with Steam, but it was enough to turn me off to them forever. I purchased 'Duke Nukem Forever' in a store and have the physical disc, box, etc. Just to install the game I had to create an account with Steam. For an install? Really? Are they really so worried about piracy for a $15- game that I have to jump through hoops just to install? And then there's the annoyance of having to log into Steam (what if I planned on playing offline?) just to get it to launch. And heaven forbid you should misplace/forget your login info at Steam. It nearly takes an act of Congress to get a new password. I've had easier dealings online with my bank. And they tend to be pretty security-minded.

^ Welcome to the privacy club. Did you ever read the EULA on Origin's (EA's) site? Will you purchase SimCity (2013) when you know they will load you up with snoop ware?

I am pretty darned careful about who gets access to this box. Me and my operating system distributor are the only ones, and the software guys are at arm's length.

I can't stand the thought of some games vendor snooping around in my machine, even if their software could handle Linux.

>Thank you. Is there a coat check? Oh, and where's the bar? Can I run a tab?

You mean this part?

>Nope.

>I, as well.

Having that in a game is like having a Trojan horse.

And there you have it. I think our friends at Steam have similar leanings. Who ever heard of a cross-dressing game maker?

Hey Nonny, my SC4 disk (Rush Hour) is scratched. But when you buy it from amazon, is it treu the night lights won't work ingame?

If you can't polish out the scratch, the Amazon version of Deluxe is 1,1,641 which is fully patched, diskless after download and install. Remember to keep the software installation folder on your backup so that you can then reinstall any time.
