Hey,

This list of tips will probably give you a way to get a few high towers in SIMCITY 4. Add anything you please, please!

Commerce/Residential

Skyscrapers prefer to build in a region surrounded by parks, not low wealth or abandoned buildings. Keep it in $$ and $$$ with other cities taking the $, and you will get more.

Named Buildings/Historical Buildings

Named and historical buildings attract $$$ residential, and $$ and $$$ commerce, although only slightly. Name and historicalise a couple

of $$$ commerce buildings, and watch the cash flow.$$$$$$$$$$$$

Landmarks

Landmarks attract commerce. Simple as that.

Rail/El/Sub/

These attract $$ installations for workers, and combined with parks can easily attract $$$ offices and residential penthouses.

Limited Buses

Keep a lot of subway, and a small amount of buses. Nobody likes those noisy gas-guzzlers except $ residential, and $ and $$ commercial SERVICES (never rise over 100 floors.).

Few Highways

Keep your $$$ skyscrapers away from highways and RHWs. Regardless of usage, these always deter $$ and $$$, and sometimes even $.

Parks

Keep as many plazas and parks as possible in your city, especially around the areas you want them to build. Watch the cash flow. (Out of your pocket, but you get the satisfaction of gigantic highrises.)

No Crime

Duh.

Clean Areas

Clean, unabandoned and good traffic-flowing areas offer desirability for $$, $$$ and I-HT.

Previous good towers

If a big tower previously built there, a bigger one will :)

Hope you enjoyed!

Then he exited to region, reloaded, and it was fine.

What I like to do with those cities is just to make a loop with the highway or curve the highway around it, as is seen in real life.

I appreciate your willingness to help and to contribute, but some points caught my interest... do you have any evidence for what you are writing there? I'm referring to these points (highlighted in bold):

I'd really appreciate it if you could expand on these points a little.

    Right:

For sub/el/glr, the simCEO's and sim $$$'s seem to think that buses are for poor people. Subways are seen as an alternative to this, and clog the roads less, meaning less traffic noise.

I thought traffic noise is good for business

Well, SimCity has traffic volume and pollution. The more cars on a road, the more traffic volume. This is good for commercial desirability and affects the amount of customers a commercial building has. However, higher traffic also causes pollution (I guess we can regard noise as a kind of pollution, too). AFAIK, this pollution/noise puts off residential (who would want to have that house directly at the noisy main road?) and I-HT, but not commercial.

I don't know how exactly traffic volume is counted - Sims per time unit passing a certain point or vehicles per time unit passing a certain point. If it's counted by vehicles, then I could see how traffic volume with the same amount of Sims would slightly decrease when more Sims travel by bus. However, I have no idea why and in what way "CEOs think that buses are for poor people". Firstly, there are no CEOs in game, only low/medium/high-wealth Sims. And while it's true that high-wealth Sims prefer to travel by car rather than by public transport, I don't see how the mere existence of buses would affect commercial buildings negatively.

All that sounds rather fuzzy and confused/confusing to me, not the way a computer would calculate something - which is what happens in the background, after all. I mean, technically there are not even individual buses at all.

That last response to this subject sounds like a good idea for a new thread
