If you look at the history of the ancient world starting with, say, Babylon, the whole history is one of conflict. I recently saw a saying by a person whose name didn't stick to me that said "History is what we all agree upon." Who knows what the truth really is?

We'd need a time-machine to really find out. You could go back and observe but mustn't change one jot or tittle or you will come back on a different time-line than you left. The butterfly effect will get you if you don't watch out.

Perhaps a time-window machine (which only projects a video feed or somethng of the historical event, instead of physically transporting you there), then?

The "Unaligned Nations Debating Club" has heard from outgoing president Mursi, and with its highest allies sitting there, Syria walks out. If that's the best they can do, things really are getting bad for them.
