Traffic across cities

I'm having an issue which I don't know if is an issue anyway. It's like that: let's say I have 4 cities like this:

1 2

3 4

What is happening is that commuters from city 1 goes to city 2, and then to city 3, and then again to city 1, where they originally came from. Its a bit weird because there are a lot of jobs in between and a lot of commuters just go across whole cities to go back again to where they came from. Any idea on how to fix this?

Congratulations. You have found the infernal commuter loop. Take a hard look at your travel network, and try to rearrange it into a tree to the commuter cannot do that.

1 => 2 => 3 => 4 and they can only go back by retracing the route. If the commuter bounces off 4 you've got a very good chance of finding a job in 3 or 2 on the way back.

Thank you! I'm not so good at english, so I didnt realise I could just say "commuter loop" and found loads of info about it. Its a shame its just like that, makes the game a lot more restricted and less funny.

In the long run, my friend, you will find that this is a minor matter. This game is so interesting that it has held my attention for over 10 years.
