I agree with you Tourist. When I got SC4, one of the first things I did was to start to create New York City. I'll post some pictures soon. After laying out the city, I began to zone it exactly like NYC. Pretty time consuming. I stopped after BAT came out, because this openned a whole new dimension. I started to create my own NYC buildings. I haven't rendered any yet because I have an old computer. Currently I'm working on the MetLife building. If anyone has some real pictures of the base of this building, please post. I've researched about every picture on the internet of this building, so don't post anything you find on the internet. Thanks.

yeah, it's pretty tough being as accurate as possible.  some bldgs that would be nice would be met life (i know there's pan am out, but met life is more recent), the UN (i'm surprised no one has done it yet), times square (there's no realistic one yet)...  but yeah, i use the nyc atlas, the nyc dept of zoning guide, personal knowledge, and even walking or going around to that area to make my nyc as real as it can possibly get.

i updated midtown today, with many of the bat buildings found on the exchange.  i made sure to stick the nelson tower on 34th st.  otherwise, i picked buildings that looked somewhat like the building in midtown.  hopefully i can post up an updated downtown soon as well.

Have you done any work on the uptown area of Manhattan yet? Like Inwood Hill Park or the Henry Hudson bridge?

The World Trade Center looks great lit up.
    quote>

Living only an Hour away from New York City, and having seen the old World Trade Center at night with my own two eyes (The memory I'm recalling is from the Staten Island ferry, probably summer of 2000.), I'll just say that there are too many lights. While, like most tall buildings, many people in offices left their lights on all night to make the buildings look nice, there weren't that many. however, that's a complaint to take elsewhere. I like the way they came out anyway.

Another interesting memory of mine: August 2001, riding the circle line tour boat around manhattan. My mom gave my sister (then getting ready to enter 5th grade) control of the camera for a while. While riding around lower manhattan, she kept snapping shots of the World trade center. Keep in mind that this was the last time any of the five of us would see those buildings in person. My mom had been yelling at my sister Stop taking so many pictures of the twin towers! They'll always be there! Maybe we'll do this again in a few years! A month later, we were kind of glad she took so many (15 or so) pictures from various angles. The real freaky part was that since it was after 9/11 that we got that roll of film developed, the pictures are dated September 21st, 2001 on the back of them, since that's the date they were developed. I think my mom actually apoplogized for yelling at my sister.....

    Ah, memories.....8.gif

Hey, I live in Bellmore, NY (Long Island). I am a huge fan of New York, and know alot about it. Your city display darn looks like New York City. I love how midtown's skyscrapers emphasize some of the shots, and how there are smaller buildings in what would be Greenwich Village, SoHo, and Chealsea. Some suggestions include: start building along the New Jersey - Hudson River coastline. Major coastal cities include Hoboken, Jersey City, Fort Lee, and Elizabeth. Also, I assume you are using Sim City 4, not Rush Hour, since the bridges have no suspensions. I love the way attractions in your city are exact to the real city, like the Guggenheim on Museum Mile (5th Ave) and the Empire State Building (34th & 5th). Park avenue looks nice too. You should upgrade to Rush Hour, since there are new buildings, and exact bridges of the Brooklyn, and Verrazano Narrows. It looks amazing, and I'm looking forward to see more screenshots. My sn is MikeAut1, and I want to chat with u in chat about your city, its great!4.gif

Living near New York and having been at JFK Airport numerous times, that looks awfully good considering the limits of the game. However, you do seem to be missing the JFK Airtrain, although that would be very difficult to do. (putting the tracks in the middle of the Van Wyck Expressway? through Terminal 4?)

This is simply an amazing recreation, dc82, all things considered. It's awfully amazing how you strive to make the city absolutely perfect.

Mikeaut1: Uh, it looks like he does have RH. Do you see the avenues in the airport screenshot?

thanks.  yeah the old screenshots r back when it was just simcity.  since then i've updated to rush hour.  here's some problems though... for example, even though let's say the manhattan and williamsburg bridges r suspension bridges, the blue bridge that looks somewhat more like that one only occurs over a huge span of water, it'd make the east river look disproportinate (esp. compared to the brooklyn bridge which requires a smaller gap of water).

yeah, when i first did jfk, i couldn't find a map of airtrain to see how it worked.  i went to jfk the other week and i hafta say, after 22 yrs of contruction (for as long as i could remember heh heh...) it actually looks somewhat completed a nice.  jfk's a pretty old airport and compared to other cities, it's been kinda lacking.  but they're doing a decent job sprucing it up.

yeah, the only thing is, i don't know jersey well... most i do is go up to fort lee or great adventure if anything.  otherwise i'm in manhattan, queens, and li most of the time.  but yeah, i'm a stickler for detail and i try to get it as exact as possible.  it's a plus to be able to just walk or sub it up to an area to see what it looks like as well.

still waiting for my friend to get me my city back, since my comp fried a while back.  he didn't burn it on the dvds he gave me today so i gotta ask again tomorrow.

hey makeaut1, is that aim or here.  my sn is derrickc82.

how did you get the highway to turn into a avenue?

you just drag a highway till you want to put an avenue and drag the avenue from where you stopped the highway
