Hot dang! As a native New Yorker who loved to draw maps when he was a kid (I was a nerd), I can appreciate those details you've stuck in there. Too bad SC4 doesn't have a tunnel mod (yet) or diagonal bridges but your workarounds are fine. I'd bet that, once you finish this region and posted it in the heart of NYC, a person could get around pretty good following it. Keep up the good work.

updated my cities... here's a quick preview of downtown manhattan.  the commercial district there is finally developing.  i decided to use some mods, 'cuz i'm more interested in making an exact replica of new york city.  anyways, i labeled some real world location (using the closest equivalent in the game)  enjoy~!

Hey dc82. I have to say it: Your NY region is amazing!!!! I love it!! But, one question: How did you make the "underwater" tunnel? It's very cool.3.gif I would like to know how to make it.

whew, 3 finals down, 3 more to go. maybe i'll update my city again tonight.  the south street seaport was dl-ed on simtropolis.  as for underwater tunnels.  u just have to raise the ground up, make the tunnel, and then sink the land back down.  it takes some practice and some tweaking, but it works.  and the map?  that i dl-ed as well online - it is the one on mex.  but i'm trying to refine and try to build a more accurate customized south street seaport, so we'll see how that goes.  anyways, some more studying and hopefully i can update again soon! 9.gif

But where is the World Trade Center? Oh I am sorry that is terrible...How terrible that was, I live in New York...
But I am getting off topic now! Stupid me! Why is there the Bank of China tower in New York? I thought it was in China! Correct me if I am wrong.

it's based of the original design of freedom tower for the new world trade center complex.  the final design is most likely to be different than what was announced, however.  yet, it was the closest thing available, so for now, i'm putting in the "expected" design for the world trade center.  so yeah, while it is the bank of china building, it looks somewhat  similiar to freedom tower as it was designed in the original contest.

Nice work it must have been hard toget this city so exact

“The American city should be a collection of communities where every member has a right to belong. It should be a place where every man feels safe on his streets and in the house of his friends. It should be a place where each individual's dignity and self-respect is strengthened by the respect and affection of his neighbors. It should be a place where each of us can find the satisfaction and warmth which comes from being a member of the community of man. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today.”

Are you going for NYC's population of 15 million people?
How much does your New York have ?

Actually NYC only has about 8 million people.  But if you do count the surrounding metro area, it is about 20 million.  However the NYC region map used for this (btw, I was the one who originally made it) basically only covers the city itself except for the sliver of New Jersey in the west part of the map.

Anyway, it's good to see someone is making good use of the map I made. 1.gif  I wanted to do the same thing when I first made the map but my computer ended up being too slow. 7.gif

Yay, you have morning side heights squeezed in there.  Although I'm not from NYC, my sister has stayed in an apartment on Riverside every summer for her internship.  Very well done!  It is very realistic.

IMHO I'd bet Peg's RTK would look good in here (especially Battery Park, South Street Seaport & Fulton Ferry)

Although the freedom tower is going to be a lot taller then the original WTC. The freedom tower will be 1776ft. The WTC Was1436ft I think. Anyways good city. I live in Canada, and we will still hold the record for the tallest free-standing structure, WOOT! Yeah CN Tower!1.gif

The newest design for the Freedom Tower puts it at (I believe) 2100 feet.

"Development officials said on Monday night that the design of the "Freedom Tower" symbolizing the date of U.S. independence at 1,776 feet tall, would be unveiled on Friday, signaling another milestone in the dispute-ridden project.

Renowned architects Daniel Libeskind and David Childs collaborated on the design of the tower, part of one of the most ambitious projects in U.S. architectural history to rebuild the site destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

"As Libeskind proposed, it will soar 1,776 feet in the sky, culminating in a spire that evokes another great symbol of our nation's commitment to freedom -- the Statue of Liberty," the Lower Manhattan Development " (AP)

i guess the if someone was to make a landmark of the new design (which comes out friday - it should be diff. than what we saw earlier).  it has to be able to generate its own power.  think anyone can mod a self power generating prob w/ mt attached high commercial high traffic creating landmark that can really really boost up mr throughout a city?  =P

here was the original design as libeskind first designed and won it at the wtc design contest.
    28newyork-worldgardens.jpg

however, this is an updated picture of the design by both libeskind and childs (the chief architect for silverstein) had compromised on as of last wed.  but there will be further changes, w/ a new design on friday.  so yeah point is, expected the unexpected w/ this building until its finally built and up.

That is just an amazing city. Wasn't it hard to get it developed? was mosts of manhatten covered by low wealth, low density res before you got a sizable population? I'm particularly impressed by the underwater highway tunnels. I'm going to have to try that in my city.
