What Maxis fails to realise....

I don't think the SimCity '13 dev team has taken into account the various skill levels of players. Far as I can tell, they're expecting everyone to be proes, or veterans of the fandom who'd been with it since the start. As with any game, there are always gonna be n**bs; ignorant novice players who just don't ever seem to get it. This in particular concerns me, becos' of multi-regional mode.

For example; a pro builds a region that they put alot of effort into, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. Then some n**b comes along and dumps out with one or two partially-completed cities that're extremely flawed - bankrupt, heavily polluted, gridlocked, and crimed - right next to the pro's carefully-crafted masterpiece. That blighted eyesore serves only to contaminate the neighbouring regions, including the "perfect" one in the example I gave, in the same fashion as Cold War "dominoes". As a result, the n**b has effectively infuriated the other players, altho' unintentionally, but is also unaware of the resentment he inflicted.

Not fun, not fun at all.... >:(

As I understand it, besides multiplayer, you will have the option to be able to build in isolation without the fear of a random dropping in unannounced and building a cesspit next to your wonderfully crafted metropolis.

As stated multiple times in all the official PR and in forum discussions, you have control over with whom you are playing. You don't have to worry about that sort of stuff. You can declare the region "private" and block everyone.

Additionally, I'll join the chorus--there's already enough threads about this. I suspect a staff member will be along to either lock or merge this one before much longer.

There will probably be tutorials explaining the basics of the game, particularly the resource side of things, which already sounds confusing to me...

From the level of the hype, I don't think this game is much aimed at SimCity's existing base much to speak of. It looks like it is aimed a new players who will be sucked into this.

And you need to remember, at this stage from the information we have been given, your cities will be affected no matter what by all other players.

The global game economy, which includes every player, will affect trade, resource prices etc. This is the only thing that's really letting the game down. If they make a 'sandbox mode' or offline single player than it would all be ok.
