I've been seeing videos on youtube showing cities with more than a million sims in it.In fact I even saw city with more than 2 million sims population. The largest city I could get only have 1000000 sims.Wonder if getting more than this number is mythical or just achievable.

Back in 2004 0r 2005, I saw a city of a little over 3 Millions on a large tile in a region that had 18 Millions. That was something. I have to go through my old computer to see if I still have that picture somewhere stored between those old files.

With today's mods, such as the CAM and all the modifying you can do by yourself with the files, I think it is impossible to set a limit to what one can achieve on a large tile.

I've managed to get a city with 1.7 million using standard Maxis. However that city is lost to the ages after my laptop blew up. However I do have a city with 1.3 million at the mo.

I got a large city tile to 1.2 million, (but that was with help of mods)

1 million+ without mods is certainly attainable, I was able to do it years ago, but boy, was it hard. (I think the final figure was 1.2 million). Really though, the only reason why cities don't get that high without mods is because sims used the transportation network in SC4 really badly. Simply getting NAM should help making very large cities. CAM would also help.

I did it on SC4 vanilla when it first came out. Took a couple of months of free time and the tile, as I remember, was about 2/3 water. No mods, no fuss, no problems except it got very difficult to do much when the crunch came. Lost with the snows of yesteryear and my old XP box. I think my population for Owhatawetness was on the order of 1.3 to 1.5 million and the region was floating around five.

How did you manage that? A million sims on 2/3 of a large tile seems not possible, at least for me.

I just kept at it. One of the things that I did was to build all the other tiles, even a little. Regional demand really helps. Remember, we are talking Vanilla, with the published patch. I did not work on this city continuously, but only when it made sense to me. it was like Topsy and "It jest growed". I had no specific goal.

Without cheats you can beat one million on large tile, however not that east, must develop well the whole region. On a medium tile once i got 600k sims somehow.

I currently have a city on a large tile with 1.4 million people and about 2/3rds of the tile is water. It's in my CJ linked below.

There is probably many more than one. Things like this pop up all the time.

Personally, I think it is better to have good quality then quantity. I actually find cities that are made up of entirely skyscrapers quite ugly (no offence to anybody). I like cities with nice suburbs and plenty of trees and parks.

Don't sweat it.Some cities that I saw do have suburbs and parks. Those towering highrises in the cities I saw are usually at the center or the edge of water.

It certainly is achievable. Check out my other posts. None of them are photoshopped but one I edited to put a red square to point out the CBD.

However, I used an extensive amount of modding.
