As time past, I never understood the whole issue of radiation.

How does it happen?

What affects it does to your city?

If you have some, what can you do to prevent it?

I didnt it was that important.

It is produced by certain buildings (Disease Research Centres, Toxic Waste Dump, Advanced Research Centre and Nuclear power plants) with only the toxic waste dump allowing it to spill it the surrounding areas. Of course after a meltdown at a nuclear power plant, radiation will be spread across the map quite considerably. It basically makes an area of your city uninhabitable, but if at the ARC or the DRC the radiation will be contained effectively, posing no problems. If you have radiation, rather like in real life, you have to wait for the radioactive elements to break down.

They do indeed. It's just the nuke plant that has a potential effect, the toxic waste dump that has an actual effect on the city. As the Disease Research Centre deals with (I'd imagine) x-rays and small amounts of gamma radiation, it will never effect your city.

Add Area 51 to that radiating group.

If you look closely to the radiation map. you'll see green squares in the places the investigation centers (and the Area 51) are placed. No need to worry for them, my residential districts grow next to investigation centers without a problem.

When placing the toxic waste dump, it is suggested by the game that it can affect your population's health, but I haven't proven that...

think of it as the desirebility factor: no radiation= good but lots of radiation= prepare for MASS abandonment on ALL ZONE TYPES within the radius of radation area (except for civics) also it lowers demand
