I hope there will be regional time and not every city different.

Because it's quiet weird to have a city year 300 and your neighbour year 10.

Yes I like the sound of it! I think regions should have a leader of sorts that controls the region (but not individual cities, apart from his/her own), deciding the region name, the time, and regional borders, delegating whether one region will trade with another, and any import/export tax. But regional time would be a great start!

Sounds horrible to me. I don't want to be forced to play at someone else's speed. SimCity is a god-game; I'm god; let me play how I want to play!

The year is the age of the city but the months could syncronize.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I believe this is one of the most important questions relating to regional play. I definitely have always thought that there should be a player or group of players with regional authority to govern such areas where agreement is not only useful but vital to regions functioning. I believe that if we are allotted a certain amount of regions with the initial release on the EA server, and have to pay for any more, that will help stop trolling. If the founding Mayor has authority over broad areas then that will also prevent such abuse of the servers power.

However time is a problem. If a region has a single time (and if GlassBox means what we see is what they Sim then a commuter going back in time to work seems a bit odd) throughout, then each city would have a separate relative time as well. I am no mathematician or finance specialist, I daresay Nonny Moose with his knowledge of transaction processing (which I have but the vaguest understanding of, having delved no further than an initial attempt with C++ and simple web design html) would be able to explain how they'll do it better. But whatever system they employ I am sure they will have some way of avoiding timewarps between cities.

If a commuting Sim leaves his home in one city, travels across a neighbouring city and then into the next neigbouring city to go to work, and each city is in a different year (1930,1924,1946 for instance) then that poses a realism issue. Also if player B, playing 1924 City (the city the commuter was travelling through) decides to start playing his city while commuter A is travelling through it, that should happen flawlessly. Various issues could arise without some kind of control mechanism in place. Say by the time commuter A arrives at 1946 City where he works the job no longer is available, etc etc.

The whole 'Sims live for a day then get reborn like phoenixes' thing also would wreak havoc with realism and common sense here.\

So I consider this an important area for consideration, but I am sure they will come up with a solution some how.

If each city has its own time, we revert to the early 1800s when there was no way to co-ordinate transportation schedules other than approximately. I have no object to this, provided that whenever time is read, the date be given as AUC (from the founding of the city).

To make matters more abstract, since the simulated time is artificial anyway, how about a revised calendar of 13 months of 28 days with one or two intercalary days at the end of each year. A couple of holidays would be nice, and you only get the second one if the year is divisible by 4 or 400 for century years.

I get an OCD sensation every time I look at a clock face or calendar. I'd only change the time if it went decimal.

I don't know how exactly they'll handle this issue. However I would hope that how they do it won't lead to one city being in a different era to another if a timeline feature is had.
