Hello guys, my name is Justin and I've been playing SimCity 4 for several years now. Here in the past year, I have downloaded several mods (super demand ordinance, NAM, RHW, money tree, and the garbage chute) on the desktop pc and it ran all of those mods without a problem. Now that I have a laptop, I just download the game yesterday and decided to install the radical demand ordinance, money tree, and the garbage chute just to give me a head start. Now before I installed all of those mods, the game ran fine; but after I put the mods in, when I click on the launcher, it won't run the game... all it pops up is the bridge picture and then it stops. I've tried pulling the mods out and trying it again, and take the game out put it back in, but nothing has worked. Suggestions please?

Thanks!

Welcome to Simtropolis

Why not just reload the game from your disks?

Where did you download it from?

In this technical thread, we will be happy to help you but you need to read the pinned threads at the top of this list with respect to posting in this list. We can't shoot at your ducks if we can't see them. Sounds like you might be having "registry" trouble.

Aso, is your game fully updated? The updates can be obtained here or here.

Jack, if he has the digital version, he doesn't need any updates and if he downloaded it from anywhere else it is illegal.

    Thank you!

And I have considered re-downloading the game, but it won't even let me un-install it.... I've tried to run as administrator and change my compatibility mode; nothing has worked yet. What did work last night, was I restarted my laptop and it ran it just fine, but now it's having the same issue. I don't want to have to restart my computer every time I want to play.

Also, I got every plugin from here at Simtropolis because it's my most trusted site :)

    My computer specs are:

    Toshiba Satellite A665

    Intel® Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz

    6.00GB RAM

64-bit OS (Windows 7 Home Premium)

    GPU: Intel HD Family Pack

Now the desktop did not have this issue, even though it had all of the same plugins. It did randomly crash every now and then, but it still ran fine. It opened the game up when I clicked on the launcher, but this laptop is refusing to run the game unless I restart it. I can hear it run it, but never goes into the game. Really frustrating, because I don't know what's wrong.... I'm almost thinking that my laptop may not be compatible with the game because my pc is very new ( I got it May 2011).

I am getting the feeling you're referring to "download" in the illegal sense, not the Steam sense.

Not just because you haven't elaborated upon the location of download with requested, but also due to the problems that are being experienced playing/uninstalling the game. A warez copy loaded to the hilt with malware will cause havoc with a system...

If such is the case, it would be wise to cease posting until such time a legal copy is obtained. Granted we'd have to work through all the viruses and other terrible things eating away at your hard drive to get the computer stable enough to play the game, but at least then it'd be worth helping you.

Okay, I think I may have found the culprit... One guy said off of the Live Chat that a game can run in an infinite loop causing it to think that I'm still playing the game. How I figured that out is that when I tried to uninstall the game, it said that I couldn't delete the files because they were running on other files. So that means the computer still thought I was still playing the game even though I wasn't. I then had to restart my computer to uninstall the game. Now that I re installed it, I will restart my computer to let everything settle even though it dumped me into the game right after I finished installing it. Hopefully this helps. I never restarted my pc after I installed the game last time, so that may have screwed everything up! Ugh... anxiety is getting to me right now. Computers can be such a pain sometimes. Oh well..

Please stay tuned just in case I need more help. I really don't want to have to start a new topic on this.

Oh and by the way, I only just installed the vanilla Sim City 4.

    Tomorrow's checklist:

    1: Restart computer

    2: See if SimCity works

3: If it works, exit and then try again to double-check

4: Report any problems there may be

5: If all goes well, install Rush Hour!

    6: Restart pc again

7: Go into game, then exit game and then go into it again

8: If all goes well again, install plugins!

Any suggestions on what I should do PLEASE feel free!

    Thank you!

    -GJJTC

3: If it works, exit and then try again to double-check

5: If all goes well, install Rush Hour!

Steam and Origin don't sell SimCity 4 and Rush Hour by themselves. They sell Deluxe only.

    Yardy har har...

Now we get to the useful part. Recently, my installation disks died of old age (yes, disks do that.). You would be better off paying the freight and purchasing a legal digital copy of the game from one of the vendors.

Amazon.com or GamersGate will sell you Deluxe, digital version (1,1,641). If you keep on eye on it, these guys sometimes have a sale and you might get it for five bucks.

Both Origin (EA) and Steam will also sell you this version, but in this case snoopers are attached and you must do what they want. The others just sell you the game.

If you are reinstalling from disks, you must remember that you need the authorized patches, so there is no point in installing vanilla because the rush hour update includes the patches for vanilla, but then needs two other patches to be up to 1,1,640. If you want to do this, look around. There are lots of references and links to these patches.

If you decide to use GamersGate, which I did, be sure to capture the installation set by following the instructions about reinstallation. I now have a permanent, backed up installation set on my hard disks. Because I change O/S decor frequently and have to reinstall this is necessary for me, but keeping downloads, even off-line on media, is always worthwhile.

The 1,1,641 version is complete and runs without a disk in the drive.

I actually didn't download the game from the internet. I meant that I downloaded it from my disks. I just used wrong wording. Sorry about that. But anyways, I will look around for an update of the game. But before I do, should I update SimCity 4 (vanilla, I didn't install Rush Hour yet) or update it after I install Rush Hour?

You don't need to get the patch for SimCity 4 before installing Rush Hour. The fixes in that patch are included in Rush Hour. Just install Rush Hour then get the patches for Rush Hour/Deluxe (they're the same). You can find the appropriate links in this guide under the Nightlights and Updates section.

And I understand about the whole "download" mistake - at my job, where I'm also the "tech guy", people often say "download" when they mean "install from disk". ;)
