I have danish as my primary language on my machine. When I chance the 13 to 1 as descripe, it chances from left to right hand driving, but also the language to danish, which I like to be english. 30.gif
Thinking of it, I might try to chance the language to english before entering the game. 37.gif

EDIT: No it did do it for me. Still have to play with right hand driving and danish or english and left hand driving.27.gif
Any one got an idea how to get english and right hand driving ?

If you change the key to 1 you need to change the name of the folder UKEnglsh (found in your Simcity 4 folder) to English.

Wrong way round, that makes UK verson act like US versions, I need US to UK version

You need to change the registry key to 13 and rename the folder English to UKEnglsh (that's not a typo).

Check the first post in this thread, it's explained there.
I'll post two files that will make it easier if you don't know how to use regedit. See next post.

Attached is a zip containing two files that make it easier to change driving sides. Click Here

Unzip those files anywhere you want, And double click on the one you want to use:
Right_Hand_English.reg    <- This will make the game change to right hand driving. You need to create a folder named English in your main SimCity 4 dir.

Left_Side_UKEnglsh.reg    <- This will make the game change to left hand driving. You need to create a folder named UKEnglsh in your main SimCity 4 dir.

After you use one of those and create the corresponding folder you must copy the file SimCityLocale.dat into the new folder.
You'll find that file in the folder corresponding to the language you used to play in.
If you were playing in dutch that would be the folder dutch, if you played in english with left side driving that would be UKEnglsh, etc.
You can find a list of folders (posted by lms) here:
    English
    UKEnglish
    French
    German
    Italian
    Spanish
    Dutch
    Danish
    Swedish
    Norwgian
    Finnish
    Hebrew
    Russian
    Japanese
    Portuges
    Polish
    SChinese
    Korean
    Hindi
    Arabic
    Blgarian
    Cyrillic
    Ukranian
    Czech
    Greek
    Hngarian
    Icelandc
    Romanian
    Latin
    Slovak
    Albania
    Turkish
    SFrench
    CFrench
    BFrench
    SGerman
    SItalian
    BDutch
    MSpanish
    Tagalog
    Vietnmse

Hopefully this will solve any problems you might have with changing driving sides.

I'm not sure why but... I have changed my registor key to 13, created 'UKEnglsh' folder in my directory, copied the locale into there and I have even download the left hand side zip and put it into the folder. And still my cars are driving on the Wrong (Right) side of the road. Please Help Me!

allthatsleft: Welcome to Simtropolis. I hope you enjoy your stay.

    1st: That's a NAM issue, not left/right driving issue.
2nd: Again, read the readme file. You have install one file too much, probaly more. You REALLY needs to read it.49.gif, because you have to choose which files you want to use, not just install all the files in the NAM-zip file. btw, if you look on the file names, I'm sure you can figure out which file you have installed to much, hint: left-hand...

3rd: Please post in prober thread in the future.

There is a problem with my SC4. When I changed it to 13 and UKEnglish, when the advisors would come up, they will just have a bunch of symbols instead of real words. Is there some way that I can have english and left-hand driving?

I also have the Singapore version of SC4. Does this make a difference?

If you named your folder UKEnglish you need to rename it to UKEnglsh (notice there is no i).
If that doesn't work please please tell us.

Wow, I feel real stupid right now. I never caught that. Well now my networks are driving on the left side, which is great.

Hmmm, I hadn't seen this old thread before. I'd like to echo braddie's comments about the traffic lights (and highway signs etc.). Is there anybody out there who can fix it so they show up on the 'correct' side of the road for those countries that drive on the left.

(Had to be really careful with my choice of words in that last sentence...lol 3.gif<BR>)

I have the same problem as geoffhaw (left-hand drive with traffic lights and signs facing opposite way).

I've looked through the forums but it seems that nobody has found a solution to this problem.

Can someone tell me if he or she knows a solution to this problem?

Hello all!!! Ok, here's the story: I live in South Africa and recently my mom went to the UK and decided to bring back a copy of SC4 Deluxe, so the same problem is here: Signs on right, cars on left, i think that sums it up. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE WRITE A CLEAN CUT TUTORIAL ON HOW TO SWITCH AS I CANNOT UNDERStAND EVERYTHING THAT EVRYONE IS SAYING HERE!!!!! Thanks...

Hi again. Just tried the "Left to Right Hand Driving Switch" from the mod section. Didn't understand the instructions and Rendermad's instructions are not correct....

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME HERE!!!!??

    Thanks.....

Double click where it say Language, a window will open up, replace the highlighted number with a 1. Click OK. Close the Registry Editor.

    That should do it.

darste: Are you using PC or MAC ?

The solution is described in this thread is for PC.

Find the file simcity_1.dat. In this folder there should be a sub folder called UKEnglsh or English.

(Note the spelling of the first). If you want to right hand driving then rename the folder UKEnglsh to English.

I have come up with a solution for this issue, involving using the Registry Editor. I am not very experienced with programming so I haven't managed to come up with some way of making this easier, but it still works.

Create a folder in your SimCity 4 folder (probably Program Files/SimCity 4/)

named English. Copy the SimcityLocale.dat file from the language you wish the game to be in into that folder.

Open the Registry editor (press the start button on your taskbar, select run.. then type regedit )

Navigate to the folder under the following path:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Maxis/SimCity 4/1.0

Double click where it say Language, a window will open up, replace the highlighted number with a 1. Click OK. Close the Registry Editor.

    That should do it.

It has been confirmed that the fix works for SC4 with or without Rush Hour.

EDIT: I've changed the instructions according to the some new information by DangerDave

i already did all of that but i dont get a number i get EnglishUK and i changed it into english US but i dont get the value number "i have the UK version switching left to right coz of the traffic lights problem"

    Chinese (Tranditonal) is 12

    And  Chinese (Simplified) is 11

But when I changed "TChinese" to "UKEnglsh", the Advisor Panel seems to go wrong, the Chinese characters are missing....

It seems that I have to use the other ways to change to Chinese (Tranditonal) with drive-on-left

Ok, I'm really sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have absolutely no idea what to do in order to change my current right hand drive to a left hand drive. Can somebody please explain in *really* simple steps exactly what I need to do in order to change this? I've read this thread over and over, as well as other ones, but I don't even know where to begin in order to make the changes needed. People talk about changing the language registry and whatnot, and I don't even know what that means!! Thanks to anyone who can provide me with the assistance I so desperately need!!

To run rededit: Click on start -> run -> type: rededit and click OK.

Now do a search for simcity

Change the langague registry key to 13 and exit. Then rename the folder English to UKEnglsh.

Note the missing i in UKEnglsh. Its not a typo.

Thanks for your help!! In the meantime, I somehow managed to get it to work! I tried before, but it didn't do anything, so I thought that I must've been doing it completely wrong. Don't know what I changed, but it ended up working!! Thanks again so much though, really appreciate it!
