As I was on Facebook earlier today, I couldn't help but notice all of the posts about "Kony 2012." I had absolutely no clue what this was all about until I took a gander of the video on youtube. With the video getting 36 million plus views in 3 days, I'm curious to see what other people think of this movement.

If you have no idea about what I am talking about here is the link to the video

The authorities have been after this creep for years. Now that it has gone viral on the social media, there is some hope that we'll finally get our hands on him.

I think it's stupid IMO. All anyone is doing is giving him attention and making another dictator famous. It's like how everyone always gives attention the the westburro baptist church when they should just ignore them.

You may say "it's to do something", well nothing is going to get done. The world doesn't care about Uganda, let alone America. It's of no value so why are we going to spend money on something that would not make a difference to us. People complain about war but then are so hypocritical on things like this. The Rwanda genocide can be included in this same idea. Why is THIS so important but the oppressive dictatorship in N. Korea is still on-going? Whether you like it or not Uganda is a worthless country in the eyes of world leaders and it will stay in a dictatorship. Sure you can donate to the cause but none of that money even goes to the children in trouble. The local warlords steal it all and just continue it all.

I bet you the majority of the people involved and "dedicated" to this crap can't even point out Uganda on a map.

I could rant on this for a while but whatever. tl;dr: Why the hell is Uganda so important.

32% of this "charity"s money goes to actual charity.

I'm not opposed, I just think people should understand this before donating.

While I'm all for helping people in need, especially children, I don't understand why this particular conflict seems to be sparking awareness opposed to other conflicts and issues. There are hundreds of issues and conflicts in this world that seem to be invisible to the world. These are the same people that turn their heads at the prejudices in their own countries, in their own communities. While I understand the horrific events going on in Uganda and am glad it has finally come to the attention of the world, I find it funny that these people who are bringing this issue to light, are doing the same thing that they are trying to get rid of, unawareness of the problems of the world. They aren't providing awareness for other problems and issues such as the aids awareness in Africa, the unethical treatment of women in the middle east, or even the violence in their own backyards. These people that are complaining that politicians are blind to this Kony bastard are forgetting about the multitude of other problems that are failed to be acted on.

So, basically, some organization which I had never heard of prior to a friend posting criticism of it on Facebook is supposedly engaged in questionable activities somewhere in Africa using donated money.

    *yawn* Don't care.

It's just "the obsession of the now", as I would call it. I am against this creep, but seriously, it's the thing that everyone's obsessing about right now, and will die off within the next few weeks.

I wonder how much Polonium-210 45 million $$$ could buy?

Let's send him a nice gift basket, maybe with a bottle of Vodka :) instead of Wine... Problem will take care of itself in a few weeks.

More than the movement, beyond all the politics, this is a irrefutable proof of the power of the Internet and the social networking. This could not happen years before the net and the social media. Also another movements as the Arab Spring, #Spanishrevolution, #Occupywallstreet, #J18, Marzo Negro, etc... could not be possible without the internet.

But the internet is a double-edged sword, because I can be convenient for some groups, incovenient for another groups. Independent of this, the importance of the communication is amazing. So, this is the revolution of revolutions: this decade will be important in the human history, because by first time the people are really shaping the history and changing course of the human kind.

So why isn't anyone doing anything about Syria?

Because doing something drastic over there might start world war III?

It would be the only justifiable war since WW2.

My point was that, everyone is quick to take the moral high ground and call out for the invasion of a country that they've been told nasty things about by the media, meanwhile tens of thousands of people have been slaughtered and are still being killed every day for protesting a corrupt and oppressive regime.

Uganda is smack on the equator and is full of rain-forest. It's hard to get around, and there are lots of places to hide. Also, not that long ago, it was the satrapy of one Idi Amin Dada. Remember him?

About the only thing that would fix that country is if someone took a page from Arthur C. Clarke and decided to launch rockets from there. The clearing of the forests to create a space port would create jobs, and force the country towards literacy. It would be necessary to stamp this guy out in the process in order to get things done.
