I don't understand how this will work since the game is mainly multiplayer. Will you be able to see the mod or will you have to download the mod to see it?

There are different ways of handling it.

One possibility is that the person who starts the region will make a plugins list, and that when other players enter that region, they will download the required content, or that some of the content will be downloaded and the content with bigger filesizes will be downloaded as needed (for example, if it was SC4 then the lots would be downloaded (only a few kb) but the building itself (a few MB) would only be downloaded if the building grows in the city).

The main problem is the leaderboard and global economy, and preventing custom content from letting players "cheat".  So custom content might be limited to sandbox mode.

Part of the fun of SimCity, for me, has been cteating my own regions. Using the skills learned here, I have been using Photoshop to create whole regions the way I want them to be (hills, rivers, etc).

I hope that eventually this will be an option.

no offence... you just arrive to this world? or you are messing with us?

I think he means SimCity in general, not SimCity2013/5.

MY MIND BEGAN TO WANDER ABOUT THIS WORDS AND I HAD HIGHLY SPECULATIVE THOUGHTS, MAYBY EVEN TO SPECULATIVE FOR THIS THREAD. SO PLEASE EXCUSE ME IF I RUN NOW OFF TOPIC.

Today, in sc4, I passed an hour to build a railroad bridge across two rivers. I turned different slope

mods on and off, step by step, to achieve, what I wanted. SC4 has been under

development by the community over ten years. In my opinion it is not fair to compare

the possibilities, of sc4 with those of sc5. It's another game. Slope mods in

sc5?

My daughter plays games on her iphone. Jump and runs. Awful graphics. She's doing different things than

me. That's o.k. The same: sc5 will never be sc4. Sc5 is looking good. Sc4 is a challenge. And so on. As time passed there were demands for certain mods

in sc4 by people who wanted to overcome the limitations. And also there were mods - in a completely different game - to see Lara Croft nude. But there are

no mods for the cellphone games of my daughter. Seems there are no needs for it.

But why? Where's the difference?

Maybe it's philosophy: you must make the experience of boundaries, before there can grow a will to overstep

them. But that depends not only from boundaries themself. What, if you are to bored, to silly to uninterested to reach them? Happy people aren't very

inventive. But game development is for making people happy.

Think over. SC4 is a another matter altogether. It was abandoned by the developers. For ten years it

was driven by the thought: "but I want to have it in my stile, as I want to have it."

SC5 is driven by the thought: "let's make that, what everybody likes."

So even mods will be different things. Meanwhile in sc4 mods are expression of individuality in sc5 they

will become acts against the swarm. It's like the difference between progress

and counteraction. O.K. some times counteraction becomes progress. But on this

field where everybody hates EA beacause everybody runs their games?

I never used a cheat in sc4 to cheat with another player. Could I in sc5?

Fundamentally mods can't be the same in sc4 or sc5. Even mods have a certain "social" function.

Take sc5 as it is or play another game. Arguing is useless. It's a fictional world. It's like arguing with people you see on a screen.

My Apology :) cheers

Because of the leaderboards, achievement system, and open regions that multiple people can play, I can only see them allowing modding on sandbox servers.  Maybe we will see some tools released to the community, since they are saying they built this with modding in mind.  I would love to build some custom models, and remap existing ones too!  Would be great to see how much further we can push the models they've added in game.  As soon as we find a way to export them from the packages, I'll be all over them.

Hell, if they open up the model packages i'd be happy to dust of the old 3d skills to give it a go!

I agree, JayS_NL. Part of the reason I never got a single BAT released for SC4 was all the implementation problems with creating a good model, texturing it, and then converting it into the SC4 game-ready formats. Seems like keeping it a low-poly 3D model would be a few steps simpler and might just be more fun, too.

Anybody have any info on how "batting" in SC4 would even WORK? I'm sure it's all still speculation right now, but I am curious as to whether there's any thoughts at all around the site, haven't seen anything yet.
