SimCity 3000 Unlimited Freezing

Hello,

I just acquired SimCity 3000 Unlimited for my Windows 7 PC.

Installation and everything went fine, but after 5-10 minutes into the game, the game starts freezing every 2 seconds, to the point where it is unplayable. I have nothing running in the background, I have no Malware or viruses...

The SC3U.exe is version 2.0.9 something.

I wonder how my computer has issues with the game, when my old Vista computer ran SimCity 3000 like nothing.

I tried searching for patches or fixes, but all pointed to the simcity3000unlimited.ea.com site, which is down for maintenance (I get the feeling it has been for a long time).

Maybe some of you could help me?

The game probably has issues under windows 7.

It might even be having issues with your video card under windows 7.

you could try & get an updated driver for your card if Available.

Don't try looking for anything from the EA sim city sites as

it's safe to say they are gone for good.

It might even be having issues with your video card under windows 7.

That would be extremely disappointing. I read about the updater or something like that causing the trouble. Maybe someone knows a fix about it. I do own SimCity 4 but I find SC3K much more enjoyable, reason why I am trying the Unlimited version.

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode. Just right-click on the game icon and select troubleshoot compatibility. I'm not sure if it will help as I do not have sc3000 installed on my Windows 7 computer. The compatibility mode made other older games I had work correctly.

Windows Vista is crap. You would need Windows 7 compatibility mode to run it, you might even get better results than with XP.

When I had it on my laptop and when the disk loaded the main menu on the desktop, using that to load the game seemed to make it freeze once the game loaded to the in game menu. Just try double clicking on the game icon instead of using the auto run. Also, you made mention of some updater problems possibly making the game freeze, when that came up on me, I just clicked "deny" on the updater, and then the game ran fine. Someone in anther thread made mention of deleting the updater file. I'm not sure if that will fix it or not.

Let me guess, you hear the launcher music but you are not able to see it? If that's the case, close all windows and restart the launcher. You should be able to see it by then.

Well I did get it to install. I am experiencing minimal freezing so far, only every 5 or so minutes. How much RAM does your PC have? I don't know if that's going to be the problem or not, but it might help.

I have 4 GBs of RAM, an Intel I5 with 2.0 GHz processor and a 1 GB nVidia Geforce 330 GTM graphics card. How bad is your freezing? Will it be just a couple of seconds, or won't it stop? Mine never seems to end.

It freezes a few seconds and the after about a few minutes it will happen again, nothing major. But it does seem to be hard to move around on the screen, using the arrow keys takes me all the way to the other side of the map even just moving them a little bit, its quite annoying.

Well, to this point I think I will give up. I would like to thank all of you and especially you SRB for trying to help me out. I guess SC3K will only remain in my memory :/ Thanks for the help!

Please set 16-bit color mode and play in windowed mode by adding -w in the launch arguments.
