I was reading something about the development of SC4, and heard that Maxis planned to have the players be able to upgrade City Hall and the Seaports just like Airports, but the feature wasn't finished because of time restriction. However, I've heard that some people have finished this feature and made it functional. Is this true at all?

MrTruesage has done both...

City Halls

Seaports v1

Seaports v2

You might also be interested in this set of Functional Seaports. It's a LEX file and requires registration to download.

Note: Seaports are very specialized lots and care needs to be taken when using them. If other custom seaports or airports are in use, adding others could result in corrupt city files. Be sure to read the installation procedures carefully.

In fact: i'm already using Pegasus, Somy, NOB and others seaports files (SimGoober, NBVC etc.) and i'm scared about probable conflicts whit the BSC Functional Seaport: i'm really tempted about installing those awesome BSC products but i decide to give up.

You should have noticed that the PEG seaports have a private controller. I strongly suggest that if you want to go to another builder, you remove the PEG seaports and all associated lots from your system.

One has to make up one's mind just which decor you are going to have. Trying to get everything is like the guy who had everything. He needed a broad spectrum antibiotic. You will find yourself in a selective reinstall.

I know what you mean and i thank you, but i used this tutorial in which Peg, Somy and others seaport files are shown as compatible and seem to cohabitate. In fact in my gameplay, till now, neither conflict nor crash.

Fine, but you are considering new material. Be sure you test in a sandbox before you commit to your real regions.

It's been a while since I used Somy or NOB's seaport lots, but if I remember correctly they were either eye-candy lots or otherwise did not actually function as seaports. Using them together, therefore, should not create any issues. It's when using various seaports which function as seaports that will lead to problems - such as mixing Peg's, the Functional Seaports, and possibly MrTruesage's ports.

Just a thought...

What sandbox tool or program do you use?

Erm... SimCity? ;)

Just rename your existing plugins folder to something else, make a new plugins folder, add the harbour stuff you want to use, start an empty region, test the harbour stuff and see if it works. If it does, copy it over to your "real" plugins folder, rename the folders back so that the game uses your normal plugins folder again, and there you go.

My version of Sandbox test:

Add the new plugin to your suite, being careful to document where it is.

Create a region called Sandbox.

Open a city

Play the new city using the new plugin and other things that might be affected

If all goes well, consider it good.

If it blows up, remove the new plugin.

Failure may occur as early as failure to load the game.
