Wow, more trees, can't get enough of it :D I think the oliv tree looks a bit too autumn-like for beeing medterranian(uh spelling?) and dark, but otherwise everything looks fine to me. i might add that i live in north sweden, so i don't know how an oliv tree looks like, so i might be wrong.

Welcome to page 54 of

Simtropia

(one of the best CJs ever)

OMG!!!

This surely are the most beautiful and realistic and detailed trees ever seen in SC4! I especilly like the olive trees, the other ones are a little bit too fictional for my taste but looking great as well.

... imagening what other trees might be done ...

Great work!!!

For a first attempt, the trees look pretty good to me. Some constructive comments:
1. The branches (branching structure) look pretty good. Could be improved maybe just a bit. But otherwise, this part of the tress look good.
2. The foliage needs a bit of work. Not sure how it could be improved. I'll try to find some pics and add comments to help explain.
3. I think I understand what you're trying to do with the base of the tree trunks but the bases near the ground look a bit oversized (too big). It's really apparent when at farther zoom levels. Kinda look like gum drops (candy thingies). The truncks could be thinner.
4. One thing I've noticed with some other custom made trees ... while the tree itself may look really good ... the green color they used shows way too bright in the game. I know this one is a PITA because of how the BAT lightens textures when they render but I just thought i'd mention to watch out for this. This is probably the main reason I don't use many custom trees.
Not sure I'm being very helpful here but I'm trying to be. I would really like to have some custom trees that I really like. I'll also look up some of the existing custom trees I think have some really good aspects about them and list them here as an edit.
Keep up the great work.
BTW, what new tool is it that you have ?

Believe in only what you can prove.

JayStimson:
As far as I can say (I lived in spain for some years) the olive trees are a very exact recreation of the real ones. They have that 'gum drop' at the bottom, there the trunk goes over to the roots. At least the old ones. And they have silver shining, dark green leaves as well. Perhaps the lower parts of the trunks are a little bit too bright, too much sticking out of the green ground texture...

The other trees would be better without this thick base, perhaps...

    Hello to all,

You are right, you are right   2.gif , the olives trees are not well known outside the mediterranean area and asia  21.gif  !!!

I should have post some pics about the real trees to let you compare. Anyway, I make it now  9.gif

I hope you may notice the weird trunks those trees have, specially the old ones. My parents do have a small terrain property in the Mallorca North mountains, and there are some really ancient olive trees there, so I know what I am talking about  19.gif

BUT, I have to say you are right with the trunks, they  should be improved  43.gif . The SC4

i for one like the olive trees a whole heck of a lot - IMHO, it is rather helpful to have the widest of varieties of plantation around, no matter what area or temperate zone they are from.
and i can think of plenty of cities i am working on right now where olive trees would be quite appropriate.
great job - as always - jeronij

The trees look great, even the fictional ones. Would be great for a fantasy CJ. Looking forward to seeing them on the STEX.

    Hi jeronij,

I like your line of thinking. I like the thought that in-game trees should be improved to create a more mediterranian feel.
To me the trees look a bit too eery  with those leafless braches sticking in the air like arms. I almost get a  feeling of LotR when looking at these trees. More foliage will do a lot, I guess.

I try to give you my idea about the trees and I do certainly not want to critise your work, I think you are a master of the BAT (in such a short time) and I love your work.

    Excellent CJ!!! 44.gif
Love all of the bats, plops other creative things you've come up with. Your cities are very well laid out 9.gif

Since comming here I've read a few excellent CJs and I am just amazed at everyones creativeness in designing newer things for this great game... I plan on releasing my own CJ in the hopefully not too distant future, but first I need to learn the tools 1.gif

Enjoy your vacation 1.gif I'm hooked on this Cj and look forward to more exciting developments

I like your trees jeronij. The trees at the firsts pics, they remember me like prehistoric trees. I like so much your twisted olive trees. I think that some of them have a too many  wide trunk in their base. Some of the olive tress you show in the photos (real trees), are really old and big.

The olive tree is a little tree no more that 3 or 4 metres high (approx. 9-12 foots) (sometimes more). He is very used in Mediterranean  agriculture to produce olive oil (and eat the olives too). Along the history the olive tree is a very important tree for all the Mediterranean cultures, not only in a commercial and economical sense, but also religious (we can found more of 400 references to the olive and olive oil in the Bible). At the Classic Greece the winners at the Olympic Games are crowned by sacred olive branches. At Ancient Rome the olive branches means the peace, fertility and prosperity (look the avatar of Simbourgeois ;-)  )

I was looking at the Olive trees and I am starting to feel the actual trunk
part of the tree seems to bright white, just my 2 cents.

Wow, yet another great addition! 29.gif Those trees will look good on a project I have. Truly remind me of some trees off of Lord of the Rings. Great job Jeroni.

Great work, J. I really like the second set of threes and that hanging tree.

An idea: could you do some models for wirepoles for lightrail. smoncrie has saied that he would do the modding, but he just need some some good models. Have a look in this post (and the once around it) in the GLR General Discussion thread.

    Hello dear Simtropia visitors !!!

You always amaze me with the amount of feedback this CJ receives 44.gif43.gif !!!

Mayor Jeronij is still on holidays. Dont worry, an update will come soon 2.gif. But as mentioned, I wanted to finish some pending projects first. Maybe you have seen the new Diagonal Walls in the STEX 3.gif.

Now is time to finish my first set of trees.

Some pics to ilustrate what I am talking about.OK, after too many hours, I have completed the first trees set. There are nine types in it. The ones which include only one model per stage ( 1 to 5/6) are also included into families so they can be used in lot making. All the trees are plopable from the Mayor mode menu.
