My sim city 4 disc is never detected?

I have this problem that whenever I try to play sim city 4. It says please insert play disc and restart. So I keep doing it and no luck.my specs are. Windows 7 64bit,Intel I7 960,ATI radeon 6950,a ssd,and 1tb hdd. Please help me out if you can.

Can you view the disc in my computer?(Windows)

Do other discs CDs or DVDs run ok in the drive?

If not then there is most likely a problem with your CD or DVD Drive.

Try another CD or DVD drive if you have one,or you may need to buy

a replacement.

The disc could also be dirty or scratched,try wiping it with a soft cloth

(from the center of the disc out)all around to clean any dirt or smuges

from the disc.

You may need to buy a new copy of the game if the disc is damaged

& unreadable.

Silly question, are you using disc 2?

Yes am using the disc 2 play disc but it will not let Mr play. It recognizes its there but them it will stop. My cd drive works fine for all of my other games.

Cool. Now is this the original disk? If it is a copy, it will not play because you probably didn't have the program to do a full geometry copy of the disk which would make an exact duplicate.

What is the version of your game? Find this with windows explorer and looking in Program Files for the file SimCity 4.exe in a subfolder then hover your mouse over it. It will give you the version number.

i am having the exact same problem! you r not alone. this is a brand new disk (i bought from Best Buy). i want to play! somebody please help!! i"ve tried using both disks.

There have been quality control problems recently with the game production. Is it a part of the SimCity Box set? I suggest you return it for replacement.

EDIT: Another ghastly thought. Could it be a counterfeit (fake) that has somehow found its way into the distribution?

I'm playing the origional SC4 deluxe edition.

I recently lost my disc 2! It's nowhere to be found.

Now I can't run the game.

Is there a sollution for this?

Yes, purchase another copy of the game.

There is no alternative. I don't even have a clue where to buy a copy. I haven't seen it in the stores since 2008 or so.

Try Amazon on-line. The alternative is to purchase it from a licensed on-line vendor for download. The download version runs without a disk and comes completely patched. You could try gamer's gate.

I'm having the same problem. I know you've heard this. I bought the disk years ago but never played it until now. It has no damage and was purchased at best buy. If I buy another one or get the online version I will lose everything I've created correct? And whose to say I won't have this problem again after I've spent hours creating.

Disk 2 is the play disk. Didn't you ask about this in another thread? Once is enough.

You will not lose your stuff if you reinstall if you have the foresight to make a backup of your user structure at

C:\<you>\Documents\Simcity 4. After the reinstall, delete the new Plugins and Regions folders and copy in your old ones.

If you have put anything in C:\Program Files\...\Plugins, you should move the stuff you added to your regular Plugins folder before you do your backups. Only the sky textures and other Maxis-installed stuff should be in there.
