Am I missing something?

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me with this? I have just installed Deluxe on a new laptop, I've patched it up and moved all my downloads and mods over. It runs fine and all the wonderful custom lots from the stex that are in my city look fine. However the original Maxis lots don't look right at all. They seem to be missing all the detail on the lot as if a dependency was missing.

When you apply the official patches your controls get set to default low. Fix your graphics panel controls.

I'm thinking that it is just the AWFUL quality of Maxis lots, in comparison to our work? 25.gif

Wow, thank you, that worked! I feel like a bit of a dummy right now...:uhm: When I first installed the game this morning I put all the graphics up high as usual and forgot about what the patches would do to my preferences. It's a strange testament to the quality of the custom lots on the Stex, because even on low graphics they all still look pretty damn good to me!

The reason the Maxis lots fade at low graphics settings is the design to reduce processor demand. This is hard to do in a BAT.

Just to clarify ... even where it is established is the Editor Lot ( in DetailPriorities.ini file ), just read the manual ..

    ""City Detail

The City Detail setting in SimCity 4 will have an impact on whether some props show up or not. Each prop is prioritized when it is placed in a lot. High priority props show up in SimCity 4 irrespective of City Detail. Low priority props, however, will only show up if City Detail is set to High. Medium priority props will show up if City Detail is set to Medium or High. The priority of a prop is determined by a table found in the DetailPriorities.ini file, which is in the same folder as the Lot Editor executable. By modifying this table you can adjust the priority of any newly placed props. Once a prop has been placed, its priority is set and cannot be changed by the Lot Editor.""

The same also applies to Flora and textures ... in the case of external plugins as not nobody cares about that they are always shown.

In the 8 months I've owned the game I have always had City Detail on high, so I had never really seen what its effects were when on a lower setting. Also 96% of my current test cities are external plugins, I don't plop many Maxis buildings at all and I've blocked them from growing.

I read most of the manual, but I like to learn things as I play, too. So I'm always testing things out, but there's so much to learn...

BTW, it took me a month to realize you can turn the gid off by typing in "G"

Well thank you A Nonny Moose and NCGAIO for your help and information!
