Thank you, Link. I knew there had to be a way to do it!

This will be my last update before installing Rush Hour. My city has broken the 300k mark and the region has over 1 million, it seems like a good stopping point for now.

First, an overview of the region:

    P10Region.jpg

Anasazi is the city I’ve been talking about. The

    Blessing Way
, Our Town, Little Green Men, and Bad Blood are mostly hi-tech cities. 2Shy and Soft Light are commercial. Teso Dos Bichos, Apocrypha, Hell Money, Piper Maru, Fire, Fresh Bones, Aqua Mala, Terms of Endearment, Trevor, and Fight Club are dirty industrial. Voyager is another residential city that I did a while ago.

Redux, Redux II, and Sein Und Zeit are low wealth cities. I built them for a couple of reasons. I wanted to see if I could keep the buildings in Anasazi from degrading by encouraging the low wealth sims to go somewhere else. And I wanted to see if I could make money on mass transit like Aronion does.

    Here are the basic stats:

    P10Basics.jpg

    And an overview of Anasazi:

    P10Overview.jpg

I like the fact that I still have more Hogans than Ryans.

And, since Sharr has trained me well 1.gif , here are the jobs and population graphs.

    Here is residential:

    P10Res.jpg

    And commercial office:

    P10Co.jpg

    And commercial services:

    P10Cs.jpg

And industry. I’ve been gradually pushing the industry out so it is decreasing.

    P10Ind.jpg

Education is taking more of a hit as the population grows:

    P10EduLine.jpg

and I was surprised to see that the old folks were the least educated. I need to check my museum funding more closely. I admit I’ve been a bit slack on that since it’s more difficult to find them among the tall buildings.

    P10EduBar.jpg

There are definitely more young people in the city than there used to be.

    P10Age.jpg

Crime is still relatively low, I guess.

    P10Crime.jpg

The mayor rating remains high, although it is taking a few hits. I did miss a few moves along the way.

    P10Rating.jpg

One reason is probably the pollution. I messed up and didn’t put all of the parks on the traffic islands as early as I could have. I think it would cut down on the pollution a lot. But here is what air pollution looks like: :-(

    P10AirPoll.jpg

And the water pollution rather baffles me. I don’t know what is causing that area in the lower left. There is an airport below it but that is the only unusual thing about that quadrant.

    P10WaterPollchart.jpg

But the thing that surprised me was the transportation. I designed this city a while back, before I used railroads a lot. Most of the other cites in the region have extensive railroads but this one does not. I have recently expanded the subway system and interconnected it to other cities in the region. Here is the commute time:

    P10Commute.jpg

    and here is the traffic:

    P10Traffic.jpg

But that isn’t the surprising part. I expected the low wealth cities -- Redux, Redux II, and Sein Und Zeit – to make money on transportation, and they are. But Anasazi has relatively few low wealth sims and it is making money on transportation. I wasn’t expecting that. I should have lowered the taxes earlier. This city has accumulated an absurd amount of money.

    P10Budget.jpg

On some level, I expect this will all be moot, or at least different, once I install Rush Hour. But it’s my first region to reach a million, using only patch 2 and no mods, cheats, or downloads, so I thought I’d document where things are now.

    Ski,

Your mayoral skills continue to amaze me. 1.gif You are creating a near-ideal mixed city.

I'm going to make a suggestion. If you haven't upgraded that airport yet to medium, you probably don't need it. Consider destroying the airport and putting in a couple of landmarks or other rewards to provide CO demand cap relief.

Another suggestion may be to import water into Anasazi from somewhere else. And put down more trees! You certainly have the cash to pay for the trees, instead of using the god mode cheat. Plant some trees, increase that Mayor Rating a little 2.gif

Hello everyone. This is my first post and I am still fairly a newbie at SIMCITY 4, however I may have a theory as to why your transportation is doing so well or at least a possible explaination as to why. Granted you may not have many low wealth sims in your area but you do have jobs for them there, Such as cleaning staffs in buildings and low end jobs within your high end buildings. Think of wherever you work. You have your bosses and your underlings. But lets not ever forget about those doing support staff (ie. maintance and cleaning staffs) your offices apartments buildings etc wouldnt function without these people. I'm not sure that the game fully expresses these needs or deals with them however while building my higher end areas I have noticed that my low wealth people are driving or busing there way over to the high end buildings and this is the only logical reason I can come up for this. I maybe right or wrong here I don't know as I said I am only newbie. Perhaps one of the more experienced people here could confirm or deny this . Thanx

Welcome, Sashian.  And thank you for choosing this thread for your first post.   I think you have an excellent point.  I have noticed that building up my low wealth cities usually results in an increased demand for high tech.   There is a chart somewhere that shows that each kind of job has a different mix:  X% high wealth, Y% medium wealth, Z% low wealth but I forget where it is.

And thank you, Sharr.  I did as you suggested and got lots of Trottier Tradings and McCarthy Condos.  Fun stuff.  1.gif

Hi baqi. Welcome to Simtropolis. Thanks for chosing my thread for your first post.

The check box in the Jobs & Pop graph didn't exist in the original version of SC4. I'm trying to remember when it came it. It had to be before Rush Hour so I think it was in Patch 2. Do you have Patch 2 installed?

I don't know. I thought it was part of Patch 2. Maybe you should check or post on the Bugs and Technical Issues board.

I'd always seen this at the bottom of your posts, SkiGeek, but had never clicked on it.  The information on education is excellent; I'm going to try the tactics you mentioned.  Since Rush Hour has come out, do you continue to use the three-tile median roads or have you switched over to avenues?

Also, Anasazi looks great; are you still working on it?

Thank you, Yellow. I had a lot of fun with this experiment.

Since Rush Hour came out, I have been using the three tile road system but I've been using two one-way roads with the tile in between for the bus stops, subway stops, and trees. I haven't used avenues much although I want to experiment around with them some more.

And no, I haven't worked on Anasazi much lately. I started a new region when I got Rush Hour. That story is told in the other link in my signature.

This is an older thread before they had off-site picture hosting. After a certian amount of time pics are deleted if they are not hosted off-site now.

I only recently realized that these pictures had been deleted in the old picture sweep. It is an old experiment, back before I got RH. But, since a few people were asking about it recently, I loaded the pictures off-site.

Thank you for your continued interest in this thread. I had a lot of fun with it.

I've enjoyed reading this post even if it is a bit old.

First, I'm wondering what the specific layout was. You referred to Sharr's suggestion for and education flower pattern, or something like that. Where can I find specifics?

Second, does this pattern hold the same impressive at 300K as it did at

That flower of education is spot on perfect, SkiGeek! I guess you saw in My exp.CJ, I am using a similar flower, but more square, I think. Yeah, Your flower is prettier too. Hehee.

Great graphs and Pics also. It helps put some things, in perspective for me.

Thanks, frndofyaweh.   It's was Sharr's idea, originally, but I think her pictures have been lost to annals of time.   I like your experimental CJ.  Nice job.

One thing I've been wondering:  this experiment was pre-RH.  Looking back, I've noticed that I don't see some of those buildings so much anymore.  I wonder what would happen if I built the same cities now, post-RH.   I wonder if I still have the charts I used for the city layouts . . .
