 Now, you can copy and paste music to the music in SC4 folder, but the id file will probably only let music with the previous names of music in. So move the old music and copy and paste the music you want in, change the name (Ex: musiciwant.mp3) to a previous name (Ex: SC4m01.mp3). Not tested but may work!

I'm going to test it...

EDIT:I have the mayor songs, now need the god songs!

EDIT2: Have God Songs! Trying game.

I once did some testing in the music folders and never had a problem having new and original files in the folders at the same time - both would play fine. Regarding the .id file - the only effect seemed to be was if it was removed the game would not play music.

Something else I noticed was the there was a minimum bit rate for the mp3 files. If I remember correctly, the files generally had to have a bit rate of 128 kbps. I believe some did play at 96, but it wasn't consistent.

For what it's worth...

Yes, it should. However, you should be able to put custom music in the folders and have it play even with the default music. Also, you can turn off the default music using the game's music controls and have only custom music play - saves moving files around.

In the long run, I found custom music within the game became boring after a while. I turned the music off and run either my internal music player (Banshee) or my external cable muzak channel.

I find that longer music and music by a singer may get boring. I'm even thinking of changing some songs around because they don't fit right...

I run SimCity 4 in a Window so that I'm not limited to the music the game offers me. I did actually bother to 'import' the SimCity 4 songs to my iTunes, and they are part of a Smooth Jazz/Easy Listening playlist among 700+ songs I listen to often during play. And if that gets boring, no file renaming necessary; I just use a different playlist or go all shuffle.

    Keep calm and take photographs.

I don't need to run in a window to run my music player. Just start it before you call the game.

I like the Sc3000 songs better, i find some of the SC4 to be less city like.
