Tram-in/on-Road no longer plop on roads! What happened?

I recently updated to the newest NAM and all of a sudden, the Tram-on-road and Tram-in-road no longer plop directly on the roads. I have to demolish the roads to do it now. What happened?

Well, that would be hard to say for sure. Might depend on how it was installed and uninstalled if not using the default set up. You might try temporarily renaming your Plugins folder and reinstalling the NAM. The installer will create a new Plugins folder that will be empty except for the NAM folder that can be used to run a new test city in the game. If things work well, then there is something in the original Plugins folder that is conflicting.

I just realized that there was a problem with the Plugins.

When there is only the NAM and the stations, there is no problem.

But when I carried in the Plugins (in the NAM folder) the problem reoccured.

Looks like you're getting it narrowed down. It seems that you might have an older file somewhere in the items you're putting in the NAM folder. What type of things are ou placing in the NAM folder? Perhaps doing the half-in-half-out search pattern will find it if no one comes along with a possible file that causes this specific issue. A possibility would be to check for older controller files. Also, have you ever used DatPacker on the plugins? Sometimes things get "hidden" in those packed files.

Never placed anything in the NAM folder other than the RHW and SAM.

So if you only have those two items in the NAM folder in the Plugins, does the problem return? Or am I misunderstanding what you meant by...

But when I carried in the Plugins (in the NAM folder) the problem reoccured.

If only having the NAM folder with RHW and SAM in it seems to be okay, then it looks like another plugin is causing the issue. You could try placing a few at a time to see which one causes the issue.

Removed the entire Plugins folder from the NAM folder, and dragging a tram in road (using EL-Rail) works, but puzzle pieces aren't there.

With the Plugins folder in the NAM folder, El-Rail refuses to drag in the first place, saying Unsuitable area or grade.

Edit: Surprisingly it worked when I removed the RHW, SAM and HSR.

Oh, I think there's some confusion on the word "Plugins". The Plugins folder in the NAM folder does need to stay. Removing that will cause the issues you mentioned above since those are the files which add the pieces to the game. When I was using the word "Plugins", I was referring to the SC4 Plugins folder found in My Documents.

If you only have NAM (with RHW and SAM) in the My Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins folder, do the pieces place correctly?

    Sorry for the confusion...

If I remove the plugins folder (in the NAM folder), the puzzle pieces do not even appear.

You could try putting them back one at a time to see if one in particular is causing the problem. Just as a thought, did you get the newest RHW along with the new NAM? I'm not sure how running an older RHW with the newest NAM will function. The SAM and HSR haven't changed in a while, so those should be okay with the new NAM.

If I remove the plugins folder (in the NAM folder), the puzzle pieces do not even appear.

Yes, that would be expected. That folder needs to stay.

That's good news... If you were using other things in the My Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins folder, you might put them back (if you haven't yet) in small groups to see if something in them was causing the problem. Just a thought...

    The problem reoccurs spontaneously.

I believe it has something to do with a slope mod, as it keeps saying it's unsuitable grade or area.

Just curious... What slope mod do you use. I've never come across this problem with the ones I've used. Then again, I've probably never tried the tracks on drastic terrain variations.

Even after dragging the road to smooth out the terrain? Hmmm...

It might be the slope mod, but there could be other things causing it as well. Some NAM puzzle pieces "lock" the terrain so it can not be adjusted. Perhaps you have one of these pieces plopped near where you're trying to plop the Tram-On-Road piece.

Before building, flatten out the area you are building in using the street tool.
