Hiding the menus=less CTDs?

I was playing for a couple of hours after working on my CTAP last night, and I noticed something on the subject of CTD during saves. If I hit the NUM LOCK key to hide all the menus, and then hit CTRL+S to save, the game always saves fine (although, sometimes it randomly freezes after I mouse over to click 'OK' post-save). But the one time I had my menus open (I had the seaport menu open whilst using some PEG toys), the game CTD'd during my save! Is this pure coincidence or could it truly be something?

I think it's pure coincidence. The crashes that happen during saves tend to happen sporadically, and tend to be associated with large use of certain resources which the game has trouble converting to the save file format. You can easily generate such a situation artificially on a large tile simply by creating enough subway lines. (But you will need an extremely large number of lines for this to happen - many times more than your number of roads.)

Even zooming and unzooming to the max several times in a low-specs computer is enough to cause a CTD, as I experienced many times when I began playing. As z1 says above, in this case it's all about resources.
