Greyscales aren't rendering.

Everytime I try and render a region (shift+ctrl+alt+R) nothing happens. It just continues showing the region view. Any help?

Using SC4 Mapper is not an option, as it's giving me the annoying "Error Saving Region" thing.

Before anything else; it might help to know what map you are trying to render :whatevs:

Nothing works. I've downloaded and tried about 10 different greyscales.

If you want an example, the last one I tried was the Greater Vancouver Region map.

You mean this one by Motina?

Seems there is a conflict between the config.bmp and the greyscale.. Try resizing the greyscale.. If that doesn't work you might have to change the config.bmp it (not my area of expertise).

For just that map? Or for all of them? Like I said, I've tried approx. 10, and none work.

What do I have to resize to?

I'm on Windows XP. If that matters.

I've only tried that map and I got the "region size is incorrect. Needs to be 1025x1025" error... If you get that error on other greyscale maps, you need to resize them to.

Doesn't matter at all.. In fact the game is so old, it was made to be compatiable with WinXp.

Not sure about the other maps you've tried, but the Vancouver map has a mis-named config file. The name of the config must be "config" or else the game won't recognize it. I renamed the config from "config1" to "config" in the Vancouver map and all it worked fine.

When you select the grayscale.jpg from the list, make sure it shows in the selection box below. If not you will need to type in the file name.

That worked! Thank you very much for the help.

Right, that's what I thought. Now when I do that, I try to navigate to my documents folder, it just doesn't do anything. I click it, double click it, right click it, and nothing happens! Is there something else I have to do?

Hi Jack. If you really have a gray-scale map you should have a file called <mapname>.jpg and one called config.bmp in your region folder of the same name <mapname>. If you don't have this, you can't render it.

Now, CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+R should turn on the renderer. You get a dialog box. If you are on anything other than windows, you may have to locate your Documents folder, or in my case on Linux the /home/<myid> folder usually called h:, You then navigate to SimCity4/Regions/<mapname> folder and find <mapname>.jpg. Double click this, then hit OK.

If the render doesn't start it should give you an error message.

The config.bmp file, named exactly that, is related to the <mapname>.jpg file by each side of the jpg file must be 64 time the corresponding side of the config file plus 1. So if you have a config.bmp that is 16 x 20, then the .jpg must be 1025 x 1281.

I have seen somewhere that the renderer will also accept a .png file, but I've never tried that.
