Will I need SC4TF or SC4M? Supposedly, SC4TF does not work with Win7 and I am not sure about SC4M.

FLarsen on SC4Devotion posted a great little way to get SC4Mapper on Windows 7. It works for me using W7.

Hope this helps!

Hi all,

Another current project I'm working on : the Cancale's bay, in western France, including the famous Mount Saint-Michel.

Area is 60 x 48 km (quite large in my opinion) :

BayofCancalemap.jpg

Probably available this week...

Heyy I reckonize this area, I spent a while around the Vanléee haven (that little tiny bit of water going inland).. xD

    Good morning gentlemen,

I'm slowly coming back to life around there after a busy summer, moving from a house to another new one ! No mapping at all during this time, just painting, cleaning, playing with screwdrivers and hammers and so on...

Still no internet at home too...

So first step will be to render and release the maps done before, before launching any new project : I like my desktop to be clean and organised !

    Thanks for your patience !

    Izi :bunny:

    Cool mate,

    I thought you'd got lost.

It's good to have you back Izi.

    Chin Chin

    drunk(always)

Lost ? Me ? I would probably lost myself somewhere in strange vapors after a bottle of Vodka, yep... ! Now, I'm lurking around there...

    Nice to read you again too :}

OK Gentlemen, I'm cleaning my desk and sorted the jobs to do :

Maps done and to be rendered for uploading :

    Kalispell - Montana

    smallmapofkalispell.jpg

    Cabo San Luca - Mexico

    smallmapofCabo.jpg

    Mias - Russia

    SmallMapofMias.jpg

    Canberra - Australia

    smallmapofCanberra.jpg

Meteor Crater - Arizona (I think...)

    smallmapofMeteor.jpg

    Kraljevo - Serbia

    SmallviewKraljevo.jpg

...well, all those maps are old stories for me, so here are the works in progress :

    Grand Junction Colorado

    smallmapgrandjunction.jpg

    Tadoussac - Canada

    WIPTadoussac.jpg

Montreux and east of Leman lake - Switzerland

    WIPMontreux.jpg

So you've guessed that it is a huge piece of cake to eat (or a pint a beer to drink if you prefer) :dead:

Stay tuned and sorry again for requesters who are still waiting for their map...!

    Cheers,

    Izi :bunny:

Hey izi and everybody watching... Sorry if it's not the right section, but I posted that two weeks ago without any replies. :(

I'm trying to make an 'early explorers' type of map: Topographic map with terrain types, height markers and flora depicted on it, as so:

    topographic.jpg

This is an official map of rural israel, hence the hebrew :)

I don't plan to elaborate on details as this map does, but just wanted you to know my direction... I heard from SimCoug about an elevation file that you can extract from SC4Terraformer. How do I do that, and could I edit that in photoshop?

    Hi GRStudios,

I would suggest to have a look at a small .exe file which is packed with SC4Terraformer, called "convertisocline.exe" : basically it can generates elevations file useable in SC4T, from contour line files.

It looks like this, just after loading a .bmp example file :

    Convertbefore.jpg

...and after clicking on "Generate" :

    Convertafter.jpg

Does this can solve your problem ?

I never experienced this program so I can't give you advices, but sounds like an interesting option. You will probably have to create a layer onto the contour map you have, and draw your lines from black (lowest) to white (highest)...

    Hope it helps !

Izi, I opened the .exe file you were writing about. Now, what file do I upload in order to see the elevation lines like in your example?

It seems like getting closer to what i'm trying to accomplish.

    Thanks!

    GRStudios,

Here is the bmp file I opened, it is given in the download package. You should find it in an "Additionnalfiles" folder, with some more examples...

A small candy to chew before the week-end : a preview of the map of Rochester you requested !

Map is (if I remember correctly) 7 x 9 big tiles.

Izi - Hmm... It looks nice, but I thought that I can take my region and turn it into a file with elevation lines only. Do you know a way to do it? (I use your Aberdeen map if you recall) :)

    Hi grstudios,

I'm sorry, but I understood the opposite of want you answered ! I thought you had a contour map (like your example) and wanted to transform it into an elevation map... :(

Transforming an elevation into a contour map is, as far as I know, impossible with this tool. Sorry again...!

This small post to show you the "Montreux" map rendered... ...it will probably be uploaded next week :

    Hi izi! Thanks for the comment. I didn't think that I will have a tailor-made solution, though the .exe file seemed like a breakthrough. Well, no pity. I'll try to put my idea aside for now, and make a map without altitude lines. :}

Btw, your last maps show some great mountainous regions! Thank you for those, they are practically a volunteering work, and a fulfilling hobby...

    Good morning gentlemen,

Busy weeks these days so (you know lazy I can be sometimes), I did not render anything, shame >.<

However some more maps have been done and now entering the crowded waiting room for a rendering session...

Tadoussac, Québec - Canada (1 arc resolution)

    smallmapofTadoussac_zps4ae1eecc.jpg

Western part of Tenerife Island (3 arc resolution)

    smallmapofTenerife_zps0d98c579.jpg

New Orleans - Mississipi Louisiana (1/9 arc resolution) (thanks TheBonobo4 !)

    smallmapofNOrleans_zps07693d39.jpg

    Aosta valley and Mont-Blanc - Italy/France (1 arc resolution)

    smallmapofAosta_zpse193e00e.jpg

You may have noticed that I played too with the color chart of Terraformer, a bit more flashy, no ?

Stay tuned as some more are still coming ! I will have to schedule entire evenings next week to render the billions of tiles...

    Cheers,

    Izi :bunny:

    Hi Gentlement,

Another experimentation I would like to share with us here. 10000000000000 has recently requested for a map of western coast of Florida, called Ten Thousand Island.

This part of coast is full of small islands, mangroves and inlets : a real nightmare to map you might think ! (and beware of alligators too...).

So I gathered 1/3 resolutions datas and launched the mapping machine. Important thing to know is that elevation is very low : between 0 meters and... ...almost 8 meters at "highest" spots. Sea depht is also very low too with a deepest spot at -5 meters, some kilometers away from the coast.

Here is the Terraformer interpretation of the elevations datas, without ANY redrawing :

    smallviewofTThI_zpsdafdec9d.jpg

I finally only edited the water zones in order to create a small gradient like this :

    smallviewofTThI_zps38b8ef0d.jpg

No satellite datas, no pictures, no layers here : only elevation datas !

    Cheers,

    Izi :bunny:

    Hi mappers,

This small update as Tadoussac has been uploaded :

    smallviewofTadoussac_zps1e50ad3b.jpg

    ***EDIT***

I decided to continue my experimentations about low elevation areas like in Florida, I scrolled a bit more southward the map and finally arrived around Whitewater Bay, Everglades.

Here again, no satellite pictures, no drawing, just editing the datas. It is only possible because elevation is very low (between 0 and 2 meters above sea level). Otherwise, it couldn't be possible I think. I have selected the water area and create a specific layer where making a gradient was possible. I also (finally !) found out how to extent my gradient out of the map, by making a layer bigger than the final picture, then cropping it.

Whitewater Bay, Florida (1/3 arc resolution) :

    smallmapofWhitewater_zpsd0afaf8e.jpg

Beware of mosquitos and alligators !

Hey Izidor I don't know if you got my message about Manchester or not. If not then I'm requesting that you please make it as specified, just so I can have a comparison. Not that I'm not pleased with drunkapple's work, just I'm not sure if it's to scale or too large/small. Plus it's nice to have a comparison. :)

    Hi Blublub,

Sorry for that long silence, as I tried to play SC4 these last evenings, instead of mapping, shame on me
