Good morning Gentlemen,

I've just started this topic to share with you my mapping experimentations and the uploads to the STEX. All maps I'm trying to do are based on DEM maps and satellite datas, using also SC4 Mapper and SC4 Terraformer.

Goal is to keep dimensions and elevations realistic and accurate.

Today, let's walking along the mediterranean coast, between France and Spain :

Banyuls (56 x 32 km)

Uploaded today on the STEX.

Please feel free to comment and request :)

  • Hi all,

Another current project I'm working on : the Cancale's bay, in western France, including the famous Mount Saint-Michel.

Area is 60 x 48 km (quite large in my opinion) :

    BayofCancalemap.jpg

    Probably available this week...

  • Hello there,

Looking at those jewels that Dobdriver/Drunkapple just released, it makes me want to relaunch the mapmachine again.

Another french map : the Brest area.

  • Hi there,

Two more bones to chew here. This time, let's open a tequila bottle and explore the mexican gulf of California.

La Isla Angel de la Guardia :

    MapIADLG.jpg

La Isla Tiburon and Cabo Tepoca :

    mapcabo.jpg

These 2 maps and the 2 other french maps will (I hope) be released next week. The pain is to open all those tiles... ...in order to render the maps >.<

  • Hi SC4 fans,

As those two mexican maps are released on the STEX, I practiced a bit at making rivers and streams...

Here is my last attempt : Topeka and the Kansas River (48 x 32 km)

    SmallmapTopeka.jpg

Based on a 1-Arc DEM map, I found that many more details are visibles. Unfortunatelly, these 1-Arc maps are only avalaible for the US territory.

    Cheers

Actually, that is false. I don't have the link handy, but there is a place available to get 1 arc data for the rest of the world.

The last time I tried to download some data, it kept timing out. A couple of weeks ago, it went offline with no explanation, only to reappear a few days later. So I can't guarantee you'll be able to download, though I haven't tried in a few days.

  • Hi mappers,

Some experimentations with river, streams and coastline correcting/redrawing.

I recently discovered the SRTM Water Body Data files which indicates the shoreline on DEM maps with sufficient accuracy.

Unfortunatelly, in my example, it's not enough to correctly render all details and wanted. So, some things are redrawn.

    Here is Portland, Maine :

  • Hey,

Another experimentation I find better than the last "Portland" one. The town of Varna, Bulgaria, which is also one of the most important harbor of the Black Sea :

    SmallmapofVarna.jpg

I've also changed the SC4T color chart : less flashy, more real-map-like...

I'll probably upload this one on the STEX :]

  • Hi dear mappers,

Today is a special day, as I would like to show you my first 16-bit handcraft experiment.

Thanks to Drunkapple's advices and hints, I recently discovered a way to edit maps to this new standard.

Many things still need to be done, but I experiment and practice a lot in order to improve the technique

Let's have a look to the Bulgarian harbour of Burgas :

    SmallBurgasmap.jpg

    ** EDIT **

After many thought, I improved my technique ! Here is a new try at the Burgas map. Complete redrawn, accurate in elevation, and still in 16-bit :

  • Good evening mappers,

Burgas is finally done. The pain is to open all those tiles in SC4 ! Here it is :

    SmallViewBurgas.jpg

As I'm chatting with guru DrunkApple (aka Dobdriver too), I continue to practice and experiment ! I hope to upgrade my "quality" standard, so let's wait for more projects... ...still in glory 16 bit !

Burgas will probably be uploaded on next Monday...

    Cheers,

    Izy

  • Hi mappers,

It seems that STEX has some difficulties to accept new files : impossible for the moment to upload anything >.<

Anyway, here is the next project almost ready to go : the Basque country (along Spain and France).

    SmallmapTBC.jpg

    EDIT : uploaded !

  • Hi mappers,

The next project is almost ready to go : Agadir, Morocco.

    SmallMapAgadir.jpg

The improve is the gradient effect of the coastline. Totally new to me with the 16-bit technique I'm learning. Probably some settings to ameliorate, but this step is a big one for me

EDIT : fully rendered for uploading !

I disabled the Italian Terrain mod (Cycledog) for the rendering, as I didn't want to have half of the moutains covered by snow... ...hey, we're in Brasil men !

Stay tunned, some more stuff in the pipe... :)
