Thanks everyone for your kindness and encourgement ! I've been re-editing my initial post rather than posting new ones, so it may have appeared that I haven't been doing anything here. I just wanted to get a good general overview down before pushing on.
Initial work has begun on the USCG Training Facility on Sewell Point. Pics are forthcoming. The Oceandrive Expressway has been completed as far north as Rio Grande Avenue and a basic street grid laid down for Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, North Wildwood and Anglesea. The rail connection from Rio Grande to West Wildwood is 60% complete. Still trying to figure out how to snake track through the marshes without diagonal bridges ( man , do we need these!)

    Next up... the Wildwoods !

    Wildwood , year 15

A city with severe fiscal problems. The mayor spent city funds heavily on shaping and placing the beach between the New Wildwood Convention Hall (U-Drive reward) and Glenwood Avenue. Critics cry blatant waste of tax simoleons, citing that Convention Hall and it's supports that raise it above the ocean had to be destroyed and moved to its correct location four blocks away . Simsurvey, Inc. was determined to have given the city the wrong location in its estimate.  The mayor proclaimed a new and glorious future , adding a beachfront amusement pier to Wildwood's attractions.
    moreyspier5qq.jpg border=0
For the first few years, Wildwood enjoyed a boom as sims flocked to a city with ample attractions. Zones filled rapidly, and R$$ and R$$$ condos began popping up all over town. Two tax raises later, the city was generating appreciable revenues, .but was just not enough to pay for the mayor's vision. It was already too late by the time someone finally asked   What's all this going to cost ? .
With a depleted city treasury, the mayor turned to commercial interests for a loan. Forty thousand simoleons and ten years, and I will put Wildwood back on its feet, he proclaimed at a Chamber of Commerce meeting. Realizing that thier future was tied to that of the city, they agreed. Five years later they were less enthusiastic when the mayor came calling again. The price tag this time : ten thousand simoleons for development north of Glenwood Avenue.
A month later, that money was gone as well. Teacher's and health care strikes grew more common as the mayor tried to trim more expenses from the budget. Things were getting ugly for the mayor, and he defended his vision of Wildwood's future at an emergency meeting at the Mayoral Residence after an angry mob stormed the gates. He pointed to all of his successes in community service and the rewards they have given the city : A stadium, opera house, farm market, Disease Reasearch Center  and more. Critics countered that the city no longer had the simoleons to fund any of these projects, and were demanding  a full investigation be launched when city finance advisor Monique Diamond rushed in shouting we turned a profit ! A  small profit, but a profit nonetheless.

Wildwood, looking south from 26th St.

In each succeding month, the budget surplus grew larger. At year 15, there is only 18 months to go on loan payments. After that,  a welcome 495 simoleons will be added  every month, doubling the city's income and generating profits. With most of its city infrastructure in place, Wildwood is looking optomistically to the future

Greetings from the Northern reaches of 'down the shore'! 9.gif

    Two thoughts:

    1. Perhaps you need to request a special 'Shoebie' My Sim mode to better simulate the influx of 'summer folk'.

    2. Are you planning on creating a special lot for Springer's Ice Cream in Stone Harbor?

    Fantastic job. 44.gif

Thanks!  At the moment I'm trying to get all cities in the region up to year 15. I've looked at SC4's version of BAT and it's a bit beyond me. Nothing at all like the user-friendly BAP that came with SC3KU. Once I have the  region down and cities synchronised up to year 15, I may give it another go.  My wish list includes a transit-enabled boardwalk ( pedestrian only) , more realistic lighthouses for Cape May Point and North Wildwood,  the Wetlands Institute on Stone Harbor Boulevard and maybe a few of Cape May's Victorian -era mansions. I'm not real hopeful, and will probably have to depend on the BAT skills of others.

A few more pics from the Wildwoods :
    wildwood152il.jpg border=0

    Wildwood (downtown)

The Oceandrive Expressway runs down the center of the island, and is flanked by New Jersey Avenue to the north, and Atlantic Avenue to the south and east.  Most of the city's commerce is located on these two avenues. Rio Grande Avenue ( top, E-W avenue) links the island to the mainland. The diagonal road net makes development a bit more challenging, but so far I'm pleased with initial results. After the troubles I ran into during the construction of Wildwood ( see above), I determined to go back to a more patient approach. It seems to be working, as this part of Wildwood has an ample cash supply, a balanced budget and good ratings across the board.

    shawcrestmar29173vt.jpg border=0

Shawcrest : Gateway to the Wildwoods

Once just a collection of summer cottages and mobile homes off of Route 47 , the mayor has made significant changes here. A new bridge branches off of Route 47 , heading to the northern end of the island via Glenwood Avenue and West Wildwood. Another causeway leads south through Shawcrest to Wildwood Crest via a bridge over Sunset Lake ( not shown, off map to the south). These two additional routes on and off the island significantly reduce traffic congestion on Rio Grande Avenue . A small industrial park  north of Route 47 provides a few jobs. This section of the city has some unemployment issues which will hopefully be cleared up once I develop Wildwood Crest.

Wildwood Gateway Arch over Delsea Drive

Shawcrest celebrates its new reputation as Gateway to the Wildwoods with the Wildwood Gateway Arch and surrounding Gateway Park. Towering high over Delsea Drive and the surrounding marshland, it is the currently the tallest structure in the region. This facility offers a place for some fishing, crabbing and other recreational activities, not to mention a breathtaking view from the top. The Wildwood Tourist Information Center has also been moved to this location. A resort hotel with marina has been built nearby . ( see above)

U.S. COAST GUARD TRAINING CENTER, CAPE MAY
    uscg7en.jpg border=0

The USCG Training Center on Sewell Point ( left, south of inlet) has been called by Tom Clancy in Clear and Present Danger  one of the finest schools of seamanship in the world.  It's here that seagoing Sims learn the finer points of seamanship, search and rescue tactics, and extensive training in conducting thier part of the war on terror.

    airsearescue1oo.jpg border=0

Special Parachute SAR team trains in the waters off Cape May

At the mayor's insistance , a special team of Sims have been trained as a first-response unit to aid seagoing Sims in distress. These units fly ahead of the slower surface and helicopter units to be the first on the scene to render assistance.\

Day or night, Airborne Rescue stands ready.

Armed with a battery powered survival suits, day-glo 'chutes, and the latest in communications gear, the teams are able to operate under several types of weather conditions in the chilly Atlantic waters offshore.

    electronicsbeach1rp.jpg border=0

    Electronics Beach Rocket Research Facility

The Electronics Beach was once a LORAN station, which were made obsolete by GPS systems. The site had been abandoned for years until the mayor invited the firm General Simtronics to set up shop and conduct rocket tests off the New Jersey coast . It is hoped that this will sometime in the future lead to a spaceport being constructed in the region.  This is a restricted access area ( note security booth near highway entrance), and the perimiter is patrolled by armed guards.

Night Launch at the Rocket Test Center lights up the skies of the region.

Sims are now looking to the sky and dreaming of the future!

Cape May County tops 200K population

WILDWOOD CREST (SP) - The Mayor's Office has issued a statement announcing that Fiona McSim has become the region's 200,000th resident.
At a special reception at The Breakers resort hotel, Miss Mc Sim was awarded a certificate and a lifetime supply of salt water taffy. The former beauty queen gushed I'm just so happy to be here and I'd like to thank all the little people who made this possible, the moving men, that guy who gave me directions...
    wildwoodcrest19154qb.jpg

    Wildwood Crest, year 15

Rising unemployment in neighboring Sunset Lake and Shawcrest forced me to zone for industry here. Despite an oppressive (15%) tax rate , some foundries and a few other polluters have set up shop here. So far they don't seem to be damaging the environment and the hefty taxes they pay are a welcome boost to the city treasury, so they can stay for now.  I've noticed a drop in commercial demand lately. I'm guessing that Crest sims are content doing thier shopping in downtown Wildwood.

    jarvissound13155sc.jpg

    Jarvis Sound  (Lower Township)

The Diamond Beach section (right) is Lower Township's only oceanfront land. Ocean Drive continues westward over the toll bridge and past some light industry on the northern shores of Cape May Harbor. The land south of Ocean Drive west of the Cape Island Expressway is a National Wildlife sanctuary.

    villas150ra.jpg

    Villas (Lower Township)

Originally called Wildwood Villas, over the years the name was shortened to Villas , or as residents call it ,da Villas. This city has been the butt of many local jokes, and the mayor has decided that he will use it to showcase his plan for the region's future. The city is the currently the second largest in the region, and is turning a tax profit of nearly 4000 simoleons a month.

    villasuniv5zs.jpg

Bayshore University and the Villas Dental Research Lab

Providing  a quality education is one of the mayor's top priorities, and now Villas schools are turning out a well trained workfoce. High tech industries are now beginning to be attracted to the city, slowly transforming blighted industrial areas. A football stadium has been built where Bayshore University plays its archrival, Cape May U. The Villas Dentistry Research Lab has been built nearby, to the right. This puts an end to the old joke ..

What do you get when you put twenty girls from the Villas in one room ? - A full set of teeth !. 6.gif

Villas sims can now get into all the bar fights they want to and be smiling pretty the following week.

Fighters of the NJ Air National Guard put on a  show

VILLAS (SP) Thousands of residents and visitors alike were thrilled by a recent airshow over the city's skies this past weekend. The show was performed by units of the NJ Air National Guard and sponsored by  FlameOut ™  fire extinguishers and Fred's Titanium Umbrellas. The fighters are based at the recently activated Cape May Naval Air Station at the County Airport complex.

    Green Creek in Middle Township

Green Creek is a farming community on Route 47, northwest of Rio Grande.  The farms here turn out a variety of Jersey Fresh ™ produce. Tomatoes,  sweet corn, asparagus, squash and beans are just some of the goodies found at local produce markets throughout the region. Those who don't work on the farms commute to jobs in Rio Grande and Villas.

    A Change in Plans :
I had originally planned to develop the entire region to year 15 before pressing on. After synchronising the southern cities, I was supposed to develop the northern areas. To be honest, I'm pretty pleased with the way things are going on the southern Cape and don't want to put things on hold for a few weeks while I develop the north.

Mayor to County Sims : The Future Is Now !
    /idealbb/files/vresearchlab1.JPG

VILLAS (SP) At a ribbon cutting ceremony opening the Cape South Advanced Fusion research lab, the mayor spoke briefly on his plans for the region's future. I see no reason why Cape May County shouldn't be on the cutting edge of technological advances. Crediting the region's excellent educational opportunities, 2400 hi-tech jobs already exist here in the Villas. The mayor plans on doubling that within the next 10 years.

The Cape South Advanced Fusion lab is a co-operative of area scientists tasked with finding an abundant source of clean and safe energy. Initial research has already begun at other locations and is in the process of moving into the new facility. They plan on working closely with researchers at the Rocket Test Center at Cold Spring Inlet.

Hi-Tech Jobs on the rise in Villas over the last five years

Having met one of the pre-requisites , the rest of it was just a simple matter of negotiating neighbor city power deals.

Breakthrough at Research Lab : Fusion Power

    /idealbb/files/Villas22May27fusion2.JPG

VILLAS (SP) Recent breakthroughs at Cape South Labs have led to the construction of a hydrogen-fusion power plant here. It was built despite protests over higher energy costs and a loss of income to cities that rely on power sales. The mayor calmed these fears, saying that although hydrogen power is four times more costly than that generated by coal burning power plants, property values should rise substantially with no major polluters in the city.

    /idealbb/files/outage.JPG

Brief power outages were suffered in Bayshore East, Town Bank , and Fishing Creek around 8 p.m  while power was switched from thier old supplier , but power was restored shortly after nightfall

    /idealbb/files/pwron.JPG

As part of the mayor's plan for a cleaner, greener Cape May , five coal burning power plants and four natural gas burners have been destroyed throughout the region.

    /idealbb/files/powerdist.JPG

Power Distribution in the fusion era

The new fusion plant (yellow circle, south end of Villas) supplies those fifteen cities bounded in yellow. Each city has a small surplus for future growth. The waste to energy plants at the LOWER township Municipal Utility Authority power the industrial park there , the city of Erma , and the small development west of the Garden State Parkway in Taylor Sound ( orange) .Eastern Cape May and the southern half of the Wildwoods are powered by 2 coal burners and a W2E located at Cold Spring Inlet.

Budget Woes Continue in Cape May Point
    /idealbb/files/cmp.JPG

CAPE MAY POINT (SP) - Rising energy costs, along with icreased demand for healthcare and education is taking a large bite of this city's treasury. With most of the developable land already in use, the mayor here is hard pressed to balance the budget with a limited supply of ratables. When asked about the 2400 simoleon defecit in this year's city budget, the mayor replied Hey, last year this city was losing almost three times that . We're not out of the woods yet, but we can see light at the end of the tunnel.  The mayor has increased funding to the Cape May Point Municipal Airport, improving efficiency there and hopefully fueling a commercial boom.

    In other news...

Pollution concerns lead to farm rezoning

    /idealbb/files/farm13.JPG

FISHING CREEK (SP) - My tomatoes taste like diesel oil  complained Otis Cowchip, 73, a local farmer here. It's all that traffic out on Breakwater Road what's doin' it, especially all those busses.  When asked to comment, a spokesman for the Five Mile Beach Bus Company was quick to point out that thier vehicles run on  garlicahol, the residue of which has a pungent scampi flavor.

    /idealbb/files/farm25.JPG

Under provisions of the Farmland Protection Act, Mr. Cowchip was granted additional  acreage away from the road.  He built a house over the abandoned acreage and plans to yell at traffic a lot from the porch in his free time.

Survey shows area cops get thier Sim

    /idealbb/files/arrests.JPG

NORTH CAPE MAY (SP) - A recent study has determined that area cops are not just hanging around Dunkin Donuts on thier shifts. They're out there doing thier jobs, catching criminals most of the time. Police spokesman Sergeant Sedenko points proudly to the apprehension of the Bayshore Road Flasher.  Busty Juggs, 22,  was arrested for indecent exposure after causing  a fourteen car pileup at the intersection of Town Bank and Bayshore Roads on Friday.  Said Sedenko, Apparently she'd been doing this for months. Funny no one reported it

12th Annual Mako Shark Tourney this weekend

    /idealbb/files/sjerseymarina.JPG

CAPE MAY (SP)- South Jersey Marina gears up to host the 12th Annual Mid-Atlantic Shark Tourney. With prizes upwards of half a million simoleons divided between the different categories, the event draws sims wanting thier bite of the prize money. This is a catch and release tournament, with judges aboard all boats. Events are planned throughout the city for the event, including a safety lecture from last year's winners Bill Lefty Simowski and Fred Stumpy Jones.

VILLAS (SP) Area duffers rejoice as the region's first country club opens its gates. Ponderlodge Resort opened earlier this year here in Villas. Said one Sim, It's about time.. I kept getting thrown out of all those miniature golf courses for bringing my driver with me.

                  POWER STRUGGLE
Court Ends South Cape Power Monopoly
    /idealbb/files/WWFusion.JPG

WILDWOOD (SP)  Amid allegations of price gouging by South Cape Fusion, and patent infringement by engineers at Five Mile Beach Power & Light Company , the Simpreme Court has detemined that hydrogen fusion should benefit all of Simkind and not just line the pockets of a greedy few.  C.M. Burns, CEO of South Cape Fusion was vacationing at his private island in the Carribean and  unavailable for comment. The ruling turns over the power rights to the Wildwoods, Cold Spring, and Cape May to FMB. South Cape retains the rights to the remainder of the county, with rights to undeveloped cities on a first come, first served basis. In response, South Cape rapidly constructed a power line north along Route 47  to claim the communities along Delaware Bay.

It was also ruled that polluting power plants are a threat to public health and a zero emission law was passed prohibiting the operation or construction of any polluting power plant. The region's remaining coal and natural gas plants were shut down and dismantled.

One if by land, two if by sea ...

    /idealbb/files/cruiseportCM.JPG

CAPE MAY (SP) - Midlantic Cruise Lines opened its new Cape May facility here on the southern shore of the harbor, announcing luxury day trips to and from New York, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and Ocean City, Md.  The port will also handle other cruise lines wishing to make Cape May a port of call.

Cape Atlantic Beer League Attendance Up

    /idealbb/files/nitegame.JPG

CAPE MAY (SP) - A recent survey shows the growing popularity of the Cape Atlantic Beer League. Local businesses supply teams made up of employees. Competition is fierce, and some firms have hired retired major league players to consulting jobs to improve thier roster. Larger companies even have a minor league system and training facilities to improve thier chances. A percentage of the profits gets paid in bonuses to all employees of participating businesses, creating a rabid fan base to pack state of the art baseball stadia. Teams currently exist in Villas, Wildwood, Cape May, and Rio Grande. Expansion teams are planned for Cape May Point, Avalon, Stone Harbor and Cape May Court House.

Growing Pains Over in Wildwood ?

    /idealbb/files/Wildwood30.JPG

WILDWOOD (SP) Once the region's problem child, Wildwood has recovered nicely to become one of the region's model cities. The mayor borrowed heavily for construction of the city's fusion plant. Despite the high loan repayments, the city is turning a modest 500 simolean profit each month, and has a plentiful surplus of power for sale or for local growth. In adddition, the boom in high tech industry west of New Jersey Avenue has meant that pollution on the island is virtually non existant and as a result, property values are skyrocketing.

Suburb ??? Hey, some of those buildings are fifteen stories!

    /idealbb/files/WWTowers.JPG

    In these parts, that's a skyscraper! 3.gif

I'm currently venturing into uncharted territory . I've only recently begun playing RH this spring and have never gotten a city to the point of getting the huge skyscrapers. I've zoned a few 4x4 dense commercial zones but at the moment they aren't developing anything but the drive -in, despite repeated bulldozings.

At what point should I consider zoning for dense commercial and residential zones?

    New Additions

I've added a few more cities and brought them up to year 30 as to be in sync with the rest of the region

    Introducing .... North Wildwood

    /idealbb/files/N

A city with pretty good ratings across the board and a balanced budget. Most of the business district is centered on Surf Avenue (right). The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse is at the northern end of the city. Excellent educational opportunities provide a well trained workforce for Wildwood's hi-tech industry.

    /idealbb/files/Anglesea30.JPG

    Anglesea
Just  north of North Wildwood is the village of Anglesea. A small landing strip was built along the border of the marshlands to provide air access to the Wildwoods. Despite good ratings, the city's growth has stagnated over the past decade. I'm thinking that with only North Wildwood as a neighbor ( all other adjacent lands are protected wetlands), limited employment opportunities are stunting this city's growth. Hopefully things will improve when development commences in Stone Harbor and Burleigh.
    /idealbb/files/Green
Green Creek (north)  in Middle Township
Developable land is pretty scarce in this town, as most of the land west of Route 47 ( N-S Avenue) and southeast of Pennsylvania Pond (center) is a National Wildlife Sanctuary. Still, this tiny town is turning a huge tax profit and may be shopping around for a suitable landmark sometime soon.  An industrial park has been added north of Indian Trail Road , and provides some manufacturing and hi tech jobs to the region. Ratings could be better, particularly in education and land value.
    • Work on the region has slowed some with the coming of summer here at the Jersey Shore. When the choice of spending a day off comes down to being at a beach somewhere or being in an 8' X 10' windowless room with no air conditioning, the beach wins every time ! 10.gif  Still, I'll try to get some updates done at night and on rainy days off as time allows.

    Wow, this is really amazing!

I've wanted to do a recreation of Long Beach Island for a while, but I have nowhere near the patience to make an 18 mile long island. 14.gif

I want to make my hometown (Clifton) too.

Hey can you provide closeups of the lighthouse and the concrete ship?

I don't know Cape May in reality, but this entire region looks gorgeous.  I like the unusual terrain with its marshlands, and you have a good hand in balancing built-up areas and free space or trees to make it look realistic. Great job.

Cape May is looking very good on accuracy and land. BTW, I'm going to apply for  the following dials

92.1- WQIQ, A station that I will give to someone and no, it does not have a format unless I give the dial to someone and then they can change the station.
94.5- WRTS, All about the arts (funded by the state of NJ and NJN)
96.5- WKNX (or KNX  just like KYW), A top 40 station that sounds like an XM Top 40 station (with only 2 commercials in an hour)
100.3- WBBR, A party station with Hip Hop, Dance, and Top 40 mixed in
101.7- WTEN, A station that plays whatever they want to (Note, I will give this one away)
102.7- WKDA, A Rock station that sounds like 94 WYSP in Philly
105.9- WEPR, A station that sounds like Hot 97 in NYC but every song there is the album version (or radio version if the station like that version better) and unedited.
106.7- WDOX, A modern rock station (NOTE: this station does exsist in real life)

Those are the stations that I'm applying for at Cape May.

Absolutely! I'm more than happy to fill any screenshot requests.

    Concrete Ship SS Atlantus

At the moment it's just two humps of land raised with the mayor's landscaping tool. Still, it's a fairly accurate portrayal, especially since years of marine vegetation growing on it over the years has given it a greenish color. I'm not real hopeful about my BAT skills, so this might be as good as it gets.

    /idealbb/files/cmplight.JPG

Cape May Point Lighthouse is actually San Francisco's Coit Tower

At the moment it's the closest thing I can find, but I keep searching the exchange for something better. The lighthouse you get as a reward is a tiny thing, and I usually just use them only as navagation beacons out in Delaware Bay.  Still, I think Coit Tower is a good enough stopgap until I can find something better

LBI would be a mayor's nightmare. Yeah, it's 18 miles long, but it's less than a mile wide.I considered doing Hatteras, N.C. but abandoned the project.  I'm already cringing at the thought of the traffic snarl that Stone Harbor's going to be, even with mass transit. Not a heck of a lot of room between the ocean and the back bays.

That's pretty much what the Atlantus looks like nowadays anyway, just a couple rocks sticking out of the water. I wish I were old enough to see it when it still looked like...a ship.

The Coit Tower actually looks pretty good as a replacement lighthouse. If I knew how to use BAT I'd make Barnegat Lighthouse, which is almost exactly the same as the one in Cape May Point.
