Welcome to Easthamptonshire, a Journal of a growing county, developing in a similar way to that of the English Counties.

I am using the Kerrynton County map by tijn21 of the mapp squad, as I felt the geography would work well for this journal.

I plan to develop Easthamptonshire by implementing transport/public services/urban expansion in a similar way to how these things happened in England. I am using the radical ordinance mod to keep down the need for loads of powerplants, water buildings and rubbish handling facilities in each city, but nothing else. I have a huge number of other mods and downloaded buildings etc in use, notably the NAM, UK road textures mod, BSC farms, a Water mod and the plop mod for when I want to plop buildings, though they will mainly be grown.

We start with a look at Pre-industrial Easthamptonshire.

 Easthamptonshire is named after Easthampton:

<ahttp://img182.imageshack.us/img182/6233/easthampton3jan0111249820053li.jpg align=baseline>

Though not the biggest town, it is one of the oldest.

Amdrington is an old Roman city, though is was named Rundonagum then, and has the only cathedral in Easthamptonshire.

<ahttp://img182.imageshack.us/img182/1589/amdrington10jan0111251367024xi.jpg align=baseline>

Like many places in Easthamptonshire, Sapphrington sits on the River Drun:
<ahttp://img182.imageshack.us/img182/862/sapphrington17apr0411250756233.jpg align=baseline>

and nearby is the picturesque Pleton-on-the-water:
<ahttp://img182.imageshack.us/img182/3272/sapphrington12jan1311250806166.jpg align=baseline>

The other main towns are Honchester, Drunmouth and Onixeter
<ahttp://img182.imageshack.us/img182/6589/honchester11jan0111251524932qr.jpg align=baseline>

<ahttp://img182.imageshack.us/img182/323/drunmouth6oct0311252273666rv.jpg align=baseline>

<ahttp://img182.imageshack.us/img182/1115/onixeter7aug0111256521301gm.jpg align=baseline>
As you can see, farming is the only current industry, though that will soon change.

Please comment, it is always appreciated. Next update coming soon, when schools and the first industry will come to Easthamptonshire!

Interesting region, and you made some nice villages there! 48.gif

Hm, I see no roads and no railways, just streets and passenger ferry ... 30.gif

It will be interesting how you will improve to your traffic network to cope the (upcoming???) increasing demand when you build up some industrial areas ...

Have I mentioned that I miss railways? I LOVE railways!

Great start!

Hey, nice to see another 'english style' CJ coming up!

I like the region you are using very much. And the farms are looking good so far.

And I like the little river that is running through 'Pleton-on-the-water'. And great use of the BSC hedges, too.

I will follow this CJ with great interest. Perhaps I can get some inspiration for my UK village from here.

And thank you for leaving comments in my UK village thread!

    Thanks for all the comments everyone!

    Nardo: Be patient and you shall see! 2.gif Remember I am trying to put development in historical order, so proper roads will take quite a while, after rail, and after the industrial revolution that Easthamptonshire will 'suffer'.

    For those of you interested in my motivation for this CJ, please visit my previous city journal (now on hold), which was an attempt to recreate the real life county of West Sussex, where I live. It is  here . It was a heck of a lot more work than this particular project, hence why I am now trying something a little less time consuming.

    Here comes the first update:

    Schools and police stations have started to be built in the major towns, causing some expansion:

    Sapphrington
    <ahttp://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9950/sapphrington25mar1411256604147.jpg align=baseline>

    Easthampton
    <ahttp://img260.imageshack.us/img260/6664/easthampton15mar1711256600790a.jpg align=baseline>

    Purpham

    <ahttp://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1227/purpham18sep0611256608465lj.jpg align=baseline>

    and the first factories have been built in Honchester:
    <ahttp://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1692/honchester17oct0411256619294pr.jpg align=baseline>

    This soon led to the building of the first railway, from Honchester to Onixeter, where a new port was also being built to transport the goods to other parts of the country. Pictures of the new port and railway coming soon!

    Nice farms. I like how you use the CSX hedges (I don't use them so often because in southwest Germany you don't find them so often ...

    First industry ... 31.gif and later railways 29.gif

    that sounds
    a) logic
    b) great

    I guess I have to come back - so be warned!!! 38.gif2.gif9.gif

      Thanks for the comments.

    Alek: See below for railways 2.gif Any sort of road beyond a street is not going to happen for a while. Remember, I am doing things in the order that they happened in England. Time frame wise the next update represents a time vaguely around the early-mid 1800s, so the Sims are still going around in horse and carts (that look a lot like cars I know, but you can use your imagination). I will introduce roads at a time when they are appropriate.

    The new railway between Honchester and Onixeter is complete. Here are some pictures:

     <ahttp://img384.imageshack.us/img384/8425/honchester13apr0511256626402iv.jpg align=baseline>

    The line starts at the new factories just outside Honchester and makes its way along the coast across empty land.

    The first village that it reaches is Hollow Head

    Great start for your railway line. They had been indeed starter/pusher for urban developement in 19th; a lot of railwaylines that are now in the middle of big cities and/or industrial areas have been build in - rural field like here in your CJ!

    Can't wait to see your next update!

    The new railway brought new workers to some parts of Easthamptonshire, causing new houses to be built. Most of this building happened in Honchester, as it was where the main industry was.
    <ahttp://img294.imageshack.us/img294/1509/honchesterexpands9hh.jpg align=baseline>

    The new industry and port brought new housing to Onixeter as well,
    <ahttp://img294.imageshack.us/img294/4093/onixeternew0ti.jpg align=baseline>

     Seeing the success on new factories in Onixeter and Honchester, Industry moguls bought land and built factories in Drunmouth

    <ahttp://img294.imageshack.us/img294/3038/drunmouth28feb0411256778063vk.jpg align=baseline>

    This led to the building of the impressive Drunmouth and Vertabourne Railway, which would link the towns and villages along the River Drun right across Easthamptonshire, opening up the distribution of people and goods and sending economic growth into overdrive. The industrial revolution had begun

    Thanks for the comments. I hoping it won't always be so rural....

    Construction is nearly completed now on the Drunmouth to Vertabourne railway, an epic construct spanning the length of Easthamptonshire.

    I really d enjoy this CJ! Nice farms and a storyline about railways plus nice railway pics! I just would advice you to look at SimCityCentral, as far as I can remember you find oppie's roundhouse there - quite useful for your CJ I'd say ...
    And the story of Pleton, nice! Maybe the beginning of one of those short ralwaylines conencting the small villages and towns to left and right side if the railway to the big world ?!?

    I really enjoyed this update! Great work!

    Thanks for the comments peeps.

    Nardo: There's plenty more railway building going on after this, Easthampton will get a proper station, don't know about Pleton though!

    Now comes the task of sending the railway through Vertabourne....

    Great update as always! Can't get enough about your railway history. Nice idea to place the watertowers next to the railway, I tend to do this too (even if there is no need for them due to bigger water facilities) since it just reminds of the good old steam engine time (BTW I saw the last of them in Western Germany in regular work ...)
    About that viadukt... I would have used morifari's embankment for them ( I think they are from him). They turn the viadukt to a nice dam with underways.

    Waiting for the next one!

    I thought about using the morifari lots, but they really don't agree with the rail puzzle pieces, though I have had an idea, I shall get back to you on this one.....

    First time visit here, and I must say I like what I see. I often find that cities that develop like this are the most interesting to follow.
