Somthing else you might play with, try making a prop to cover up that area on the roof..  If you mdel it in the same window, then delete the building and save it as an individual model.  You might be able to render it in place, and place it on the building to give you an alternate version, without having to re-render the whole thing.  Just an idea to play with.

Also, the time is coming to start deciding what I need in terms of lots for this building. Technically, it's a government building, so CO doesn't really seem to fit, but it's probably the best choice. There's also no chance of having a growable, as the lot is going to end up a 7x4 or 5 I believe. I personally believe it's too unique of a building to place as a growable anyways. Anybody else have ideas for lot usage? And as for capacity - how many rounds of layoffs shall we have?
quote>

Perhaps you could make it growable by cutting off the base, or making a tower with the dome on top - just to shrink it a bit. (a la rubik3's BSC Petronas)

How does THAT sound?

But... the roof and skyroof needs a little job, you could use photoshop, i stated to use it for my buildings (i also made walls and reflections) and they look better now then befor.
    So my advice roof job

It's nice to see some in game shots and it looks simply amazing!  Its coming along very nice and its oh so close to being released.  I like the limited use of window lights in the building and your logic for it!  I know where I am at, that people in government offices work between 9-3 with lunch from 11:30 -1:30.

I agree that you need to make the city hall lot so that it centers with Niagara square, other than that, it looks done and hopefully this should be on the exchange soon.  The only downside I see to this building is that I will have to start playing again!  It wouldn't a bad thing, but its time I should be spending on getting my BAT project done.

    Great job again!

EDIT:  I just realized that today is my 1 year anniversary of being part of SimTropolis!  Trolling for a year and still going......

great job, it looks great.  As for my project I don't have any new screen shoots, mostly because I stoped building it as to learn how to mod lots so that my raillines work.  I'm also reworking my Great Northern Elevator for the BSC.  I also have exams, and NHL EHM was just relased.  Too many things to do at one time.

jsiezcka - Good luck with the transit enabling, it hopefully won't be too difficult.  I had a pretty easy time with my HSBC, but that only had one line as well (I don't know if that makes a difference or not).  Also looking forward to the Great Northern Elevator.  On a side note, I hope you are still planning on doing the Main Place Tower?  Once I get the Liberty Building done it'll be one of the last missing significant pieces of the skyline, and I wouldn't be able to get to it myself for some time...

    They're finally done!!

Now here's the catch - the STEX won't let me upload!!  Doesn't it just figure? 26.gif26.gif26.gif

Anyways, here are a few teasers.  I'll try again tomorrow to upload them.  Keep your eyes peeled!

    0043.jpg

I might wait a couple of days before I start the Liberty Building, a little break from non-stop BAT doesn't hurt every now and then!  I'm doing the Liberty Building next and delaying the Air Canada Centre due to my Simtropolis Toronto sources, I figure it's best to wait to make sure I have the best information available rather than having to redo things.

Let's hope the STEX gets fixed!

Now for a little background on my upcoming project, the Liberty Building from Buffalo, NY (where else?).  Standing in at 101m (333 ft), 23 stories, it is the 5th tallest building in the city.  Built in 1925, it is most noted for it's twin replica Statues of Liberty (sculpted by Leo Lentelli) atop pyramid-like domes.  It's historic exterior appearance is also misleading - in 1999 the interior was fully renovated and the building now stands as one of the most technologically advanced structures in Western New York, from T1 internet connections to state-of-the-art heating and cooling systems.

I will model the building in it's current state, although I've thought of possibly making a second version of the building in it's older form.  The only main difference that I have noticed off-hand is the large Liberty Bank sign cantilevered from the roof.  If I do that, I think it would add a feature that I don't believe exists on any other SimCity high-rises.  I saw a picture of it once, but I can't remember where I found it...

Anyways here are some overview pictures:
    From Main St:

    0046.jpg

    From the waterfront:

    0048.jpg

From the City Hall observation deck:

    0047.jpg

As I said before, my next project was originally to be the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON (home of the NHL Maple Leafs), but I'm delaying that to allow bob3003 and others time to retrieve as much info as possible on the building.  I can obviously research it myself, but that can't compare to what a couple of Torontonians can get me!

Also as a note:  please no requests for any future stadiums, beyond the possibilities of a future Ralph Wilson Stadium and Dunn Tire Park.  I took on HSBC and now ACC simply because they were first requests, and I have an interest in the areas they're in as well as the teams which they house.  They're simply too big, and I find it more enjoyable to model smaller buildings.

frogface - Yes the lot is bare, but along with my undying love for realism, there really isn't much there in real life either.  Plus the LOD is so large with respect to the lot size that there is almost no room for everything, especially on the 7x4 lot, and the back and front of both.  If anybody wants to edit it themselves, they can by all means feel free, no skin off my back!

Obviously I will upload City Hall and Niagara Square as soon as I realize that the STEX is back.  Hopefully it'll be before the end of tomorrow; between this and SimGoober's scheduled releases, there might be a riot on our hands if it's not back! 34.gif

Niagara Square and City Hall have been sucessfully uploaded to the STEX

    They should be visible soon.

Meanwhile, work progesses on the Liberty Building.  Fortunately, this one doesn't look like it's going to take nearly as long, I should be able to post my first progress photo before tomorrow night.

You are absolutly amazing!! I am from just north of Albany and if you were to make the Empire State Plaza that would blow my mind!!!! (As you can tell by my avatar) I don't care what anyone says, I think the Plaza is beautiful. I live in Boston now and the ESP is so much better than Government Center (if you know what I am talking about). Keep up the great work!

Ok, the moding and the lot is done.  It is not transit enabled, because I am having a really hard time getting all the tracks to work.  I put a request with the BSC to see if there MOD experts can get what I'm asking done.  If you want to see the picture its at https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=52823 .  On to more work on the Great Northern Elevator

Got somewhat stalled on the Liberty Building today, don't really know why but I didn't get as much done as I had hoped.  Pretty soon I'll be getting into the roof and hopefully have something worthy of posting.  Right now it still looks pretty plain, and nothing special.

bob3003 - Sorry if it sounded like an insult, as it was not intended like that at all.  What I meant was that I didn't think you were near done with providing pics and info, and it would be frustrating if I started the modeling based on what I have, only for you to come back with a couple really good pictures of a certain feature or something and me having to redo a bunch of stuff (because I would, that's how I am - I'm a hardcore perfectionist in most things I do).  Hopefully that's set straight!

vanschnookenraggen - I probably could have guessed you were from Albany just based on your username! 1.gif  I'm not familiar with Boston at all, and the only other state which I've considered working on a govenment complex is New Hampshire, which includes only the State House, really.  It's only 2 miles down the road from me now, I figure I could get some really good shots of it and come out with something darned near perfect - you thought City Hall was good, and I never came within 400 miles of the place while modeling it!

I'm still planning on making the ESP, if not just because it actually looks pretty simple, just alot of different pieces.  The Egg and the Capitol (especially) could be difficult and I wouldn't plan on doing those first.  I'll tell you, if I could do that Capitol building justice, my City Hall would look like a load of garbage!  But as for a completion date, don't expect it anytime soon;  but I should have it mostly, if not completely, done by the Holidays.  I've still got the Air Canada Centre and a couple more Buffalo buildings I want to do to finish out the bulk of the skyline before I venture into Albany.  Check out the first post on this thread, I keep a progress list updated there.

BTW, speaking of Albany, what's your opinion on Troy? 9.gif

jsieczka - Just some constructive criticism on the building -
    • The tower roofs:  are they really that yellowish color?  They almost look a little too smooth.
    • The vaulted ceilings look pretty good, but the rest of them (and the platforms) look a bit too smooth and stretched as well, but perhaps that's just jpeg fuzziness.
    • Are the platforms really that blue color?
    • The large window in the terminal looks too bright - perhaps you could darken it to something like the shade of the other windows?
    • Something looks off about that platform in front of the building (the parking area) - it almost looks like a steep slope with that texture.  Perhaps you could dull the lines, or manipulate it with a UVW or something to straighten them out?  Either way it still looks alot better than when I first saw it.

Otherwise, I'd say it looks great.  How long did it take to render?  Hopefully my comments don't cause you a 30 hour re-render or something! 34.gif

    -Chris

vanshnookenraggen - No I highly doubt you know me, but let's say when looking at colleges, I visited RPI.  And everytime I go home to visit my parents in Hamburg (soon to be Boston), NY (20 minutes south of Buffalo), I have to drive through...bingo! You guessed it!  Troy!  Going the speed limit with minimal traffic light stoppages (which is rare) it takes 7 minutes from the Brunswick line to the Collar City Bridge.

And what's all that Birthplace of Uncle Sam crap?!?  Apparently some guy named Sam, who has nothing to do with the real U.S. Uncle Sam?  My logic is if anyplace is the birthplace of Uncle Sam, in terms of the U.S.A. itself, it's Albany, being the longest continually settled location in all of North America (yeah Jamestown was first), but not Troy!

But in perspective, every city, regardless of size, has it's less proud areas.  I like to call them Bronxs.  Albany has Troy.  Buffalo has Lackawanna and Blasdell.  Concord has the Royal Gardens apartment complex lol.  So I guess that's what you get, huh?

As for Boston, MA, I've never been there, nor do I have any intentions of ever going there.  I figure, why go down there when I have the pleasure of having all idiots that inhabit that place who don't know how to drive clogging up our streets and stores because of our stupid lack of a sales tax? 1.gif  Not to mention with all the traffic it'd still take me 3 hours to get there at 2 am!
