Core City, Inner Ring, Outer Ring Cities transit

I have my Core and Inner Ring cities with a connecting subway system. I connected the subway system to an elevated rail with the outer ring suburbs. Is this a good transit idea for my region or go all subway or elevated rail?

It's pretty good, but as you'll notice in time, some lines will become more crowded than others and you will need to double track them to handle the capacity. (Two of my cities actually have quadruple tracked subway lines. I call them trunk lines) I wouldn't suggest more than double tracking elevated rail.

If your core city is a large map, your inner rings are mediums, and your outer suburbs are small/mediums...I wouldn't even bother with using elevated on the exurbs. Just use buses and avenues and highways...Monorail is great for a suburban ring line somewhat far from the city.

Your idea of doubling tracks is interesting and a good way of handling with a lot of traffic. Sometimes I do this too. I always let two tracks go to station 1 which is used a lot (that was the case in most of the situations) than I'll let one track go further, this way you divide the traffic even better between the tracks.

I hope you have some higher capacity stations than the default Maxis ones. There are also some interesting combined ones on the STEX. Multi-tracking should only come after the tracks become loaded, not just the stations. You can add stations and junctions.

EL to subway on getting into town is very good, and sensible. Many large cities are set up this way. You might find it useful and aesthetic to pop your subways up to GLR (tram) in your downtown area. In fact, you can have both, so that through traffic doesn't bother with the "shopping" routes. This is essentially eye-candy, but it can be very satisfying.

Monorail is nice for intercity hops, but you can also combine this by having adjacent stations, perhaps with a pedestrian mall between. This is an opportunity to a shopping set up between the two based on the ped mall. You can have a lot of fun with this paradigm.
