One Big Neighborhood May Cause Crashes?

So, I am ecstatic that I've built my biggest neighborhood to date, and I have to say with all of the details, it is pretty realistic. My MB size is 2.26, but that is because of it has some skyscrapers and s a test city. I won't really have to worry about prop pox in any of my cities! But I have noticed that I get more crashes than usual. It happens when I mostly move around too fast or zoom out to see my neighborhood, the size of a small city tile. This has gotten quite annoying, even though it does it sometimes after I save. I may post a picture of it later, but I wonder, is my city crashing too much because of the content I use or because I have a large amount of it?

Is it on a large tile? My computer never did like large tiles. I think my graphics card had a nervous breakdown.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Yeah it's a large. But my big city before was on a Medium Tile with 3.93 MD's yet it had less crashes.

What are the specifications of your computer?

Simcity was crashing at my computer all the time (was a while ago though). Turns out I made it unstable by dividing my memory over 1GB, 1GB, 512MB (the last one was a spare :P ). Turns out the computer spread out the used memory over MB's, not percentages. This causes in failure in the last RAM module, programs which use a lot of RAM crash as result.

By the way, I've removed the module of 512MB and now I'm running Simcity on 1600 * 1280 without any problems. :)

Zulu, your city file size is frankly insignificant to what can be produced. My largest city, for instance, sits at over 60 megs and still functions properly.

Does your computer contain a dual/quad core processor? The zoom out issue, I notice, is one of many associated with SimCity 4's inability to get along well with multi-core systems. There is a way to fix the multi-core issue, if your answer is yes:

The first is the easy way, but only if you're using Windows Vista/7. The latter involves hardcoding your SC4.exe to use only one particular core of your machine, but doesn't quite require intermediate knowledge to do.

There's also the possibility one of your plugins has turned against you in the most vicious way possible (I recall certain kind of transit lots can cause crashes; not exactly sure which ones).

Additionally, SimCity 4 could simply not like your hardware/operating system combination.

It is extremely unlikely you'll encounter Prop Pox. Only 1 known file causes the problem: PEG-OWW2_BDK_RESOURCE.DAT (To be more specific, a few badly altered timed props therein). If this file is absent from your plugins folder, it is highly improbable you will ever encounter Prop Pox. Not saying this file is the ONLY cause; there are others. It's the only one that's been identified, however, after an extensive search was conducted.

From your original description of the problems you are having, I suspect you are overflowing the human interface queue. When you scroll with the mouse to zoom, each click sends in a next size up/down command. There are only six sizes, and the others are supposed to be ignored, but if I were you, I'd take it slower. This is what I do. Not more than two clicks at a time. If you want to switch from far to close use the numeric keys 1 to 6. 1 is farthest out.

Horizontal or vertical scrolling using the edge scrolling ability can also be rushed. Each step requires a redraw. Try using your arrow keys and try to be both mouse and keyboard oriented.

There is never any real rush. Your time isn't worth the time you need to reload and rework after a crash. Save frequently using the in-game save (CTRL+s).

You could also enter one or both of the following lines of code at the end of your SC4 shortcut target.

    -CPUCount:1

    -EH:off

Make sure you leave spaces between each parameter.

Thank you, I will try that. But I heard from Maarten that if you build on a large tile and have over 6 MB of props, you could get it, or if you don't zoom in zoom 1. I'm sure it's mostly PEG and the fact that I can possibly mix up the same definitions of the same prop. I'm sure I won't get it, I just worried because I've been planning this city for 3 months.
