Please help, I am new with Simcity4 and have rush hour. After i start the first pc of a rural highway, say 6c or whatever, I can't get the highway to curve correctly at all. None of the tutorials or videos explain how to make this work. I need my highways to curve a little as they progress. I try and use the angle pcs but they never line up and turn green. If they do its just on one side of the highway, then you can never get the other to curve along side.

Also, when I lay down rail tracks my land does not even out like I see in the tutorials and videos. It just stays hilly. Maybe this is why my highways don't work right.

This is a bit hard to explain but I would think this would be a common problem with others. I have messed with this for 3 hours just trying to curve a highway and with no success.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks

I think there arn't curves for the 6-c. Post all questions or concerns here: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/topic/4381-real-highway-rhw-development-and-support-thread/. We need to get tarkus on this one. As for the rail slope, a more realistic slope mod would be this:https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/18043-brf-tunnel-and-slope-mod/

The ground either isn't flat enough, or the pieces are touching each other.

RHW6-C is curved by dragging the ends of the three sections. There are no pieces. Maybe this will help...

RHW-6c1.jpg

To make an orthogonal to diagonal turn, I usually leave the ends in the direction of the turn as shown above. From there, I extend the center section. You will notice that there are two different ways of doing this for diagonals - an upper and a lower. I usually go with the lower.

RHW-6c2.jpg

From there. I draw the upper section of the highway. Again using the lower route.

RHW-6c3.jpg

Finally, drag the lower section.

RHW-6c4.jpg

To go from a diagonal to an orthogonal direction, I leave the ends as shown below.

RHW-6c5.jpg

Again, I drag the center section first, then the lower from the stubs.

RHW-6c7.jpg

The upper section is a little tricky. From the space in front of the stub, I drag the highway back over itself to extend it one more space. I didn't extend it another space initially because it would join incorrectly with the center when the center section was extended. Leaving the empty space kept it from doing that, but now it is needed to drag the remainder of that section of the highway. Once the part has been extended, the upper section can be dragged from the stub.

RHW-6c8.jpg

RHW-6c9.jpg

Finish it up by extending the upper section.

RHW-6c10.jpg

After all that, there is a completed turn in the highway.

RHW-6c11.jpg

There's probably various ways of accomplishing the same thing, but this is what I've gotten used to doing. Making these turns does take some practice, but can be done once you get used to a certain method.

I try and use the angle pcs but they never line up and turn green. If they do its just on one side of the highway, then you can never get the other to curve along side.

As for using the turn pieces for the other highway options, you need to use Tab to get the correct piece and use the Home and End keys to rotate them until you have the proper alignment - keep an eye on the yellow and white lane stripes. And, yes, the pieces are best used on flat ground. Otherwise, there'll be a lot of trial and error involved and they may not lay flat.

I should add, though, in the interim, I would hold off on building any RHW-6C curves until after the Version 5.0 release (which, although there's no public release date, I can assure you is coming quite soon).

The instance ID scheme for the textures and paths are changing to eliminate a glitch that can occur when RHW-6C curves/diagonals are next to zones (especially Medium and High Density zones), and it's likely you'd need to rebuild any RHW-6C curves built with the current public version, Version 4.1, upon upgrade.

The building method, as shown above by CaptCity, will remain the exact same, however.

Thanks Tarkus, I will try this and see if I can get it to work but take your advice too and hold off on using the RHW-6C. I just recently found and love this game and wish that EA would do an upgrade. This game has so much more potential. Those that are out there making all these mods to make it a better play should offer EA a buy out if they don't plan on upgrading. I think there is a lot of money that could be made with a newer game that incorporates more things.

The RHW is somewhat difficult to learn for someone new and I hadn't seen any manual that really shows you how to make this all work like you explained above.

Also, I am still trying to determine what mods are must mods that will either clean the game up (fix bugs), or will allow more information available to the player to make better decisions if that makes sense. I have seen a screen shot where the game will tell you how many people live in your city and what their ( ex. R$$$) classification is. Apparently you need a good mix of wealth to avoid abandoned buildings.

I still have trouble understanding the following and have not been able to find anything on these.

    1. What does low customers mean, as I am getting abandoned buildings and think this is why, and how do I attempt to resolve this?

    2. The beach that comes with the game is almost impossible to find a suitable area that will turn blue and let you place. I have played for hours trying to get the coastline just right to accept a beach and no such luck. Is there a trick to this? Is there just a better mod I should be using?

Well I won't overwhelm you but as a new player I am just trying to get up and running and appreciate all you help. I have only downloaded the NAM 29 and RHW to this point. Oh, and I downloaded a Best Buy store. Can't help that, its like a candy store for me.

Thanks too to CaptCity, just now seeing that, sorry. I am new and still trying to find my way around here.
