Hello Ladies and Gentlementlemen,

I have been playing Sim City 4 since I was about 8, anyway, I used to think that I best leave custom content making to everybody else because I'm quite lazy and lack much motivation to learn a new program such as GMAX. So instead I will just use Sketchup and export to the BAT, I have a way of doing it so the textures aren't horribly ruined and so that the model stays intact. Anyway, I don't really know what this is going to turn into, but I suppose you have to start somewhere. I noticed a real lack of any British buildings on the STEX so I decided to have a go myself. Please, before you give any advice I have absolutely no experience with GMAX at all, I've done all this work so far in Sketchup, so please explain things to me in newbie terms. Anyway, without further ado, here is a little residential bungalow I've done, what do you think, sorry for the poor quality image, but I don't really know how to render things in a higher quality.

Also I can't find any simple Nitelighting tutorials anywhere, which is a shame because I have absoulutely no idea where to begin on that front.

Thanks

Lots of new Sketchup users! Good stuff! You have to be careful with Sketchup and model out all your doors, windows, windowframes etc. but it looks like you've already done that.

I don't use gmax myself, but there should be a slider that lets you adjust the quality of the render. Something that goes from draft, low, medium, to high. Make sure you're using a zoom 5 render. (Let me know if that made sense).

Regarding nightlighting, there's a good sized part of the BAT Essentials tutorial devoted to different lighting techniques and when they're most appropriate. Don't worry, it's pretty straightforward.

Good luck!

    Thanks guys,

One odd thing I notice is that If I save the model in GMAX, then reopen, all the textures disappear. Also those tutorials on Nitelights are great and all I've managed to place one in the porch of the house, but I don't know how to select seperate planes to nitelite them, when you export from sketchup it all just comes out as one complete model, is there a way to explode it? If you know what I mean. Aside from that, once I get the nightlighting done I think it will be nearly ready to upload to the STEX :D

[EDIT] Well, I got the nightlights done, but when I exported it it was kinda inside out and upside down, anyone have any ideas?
