    Cumberland - Center City Mall

The Riverfront of Cumberland is dominated by a strip of land betwwen Market and Water Streets known as the Mall. The East portion of the Mall contains the East Commons, a gathering area for citizens of Old Cumberland, now a place for concerts and rallies:

Cumberland - North of the Center

Today we'll have just a couple pics of the area north of the very center, known locally as NotC, north of the Center.

    An overview:

    overviewk.jpg

City Church, the oldest building in Central Cumberland, now an "emergant church", popular with the young people. Next door is the Regal Community arts Center. Although Cumberland is an industrious city, its culture is rich. There are tons of local acting troupes, the best of which is the CTL, Community Theatre League which calls the Regal home. the RCAC also host famous music artists. The parking lot and nearby old marketplace host the area's first friday, a cultural celebration of local artists, chefs, musicians and artisans.

    citychurch.jpg

Along with being a cultural center, NotC is also a shopping district, similar to Westend.

    notcu.jpg

Now, a mosaic that begins at Westend and ends in Bergenside, covering NotC. The Yellow/Orange building with the tower, next to City Church, near the Center of the image is the marketplace that hosts First Fridays and other socio-cultural events. There is also and underground Discotheque in the marketplace, MRKT.

    Click for Full Resolution

    mosaicu.jpg

Ultimately, Cumberland is one of the most Culturally active places in the Northeast aside from NYC.

    Thanks for Visiting.

Ps. I'm working really hard on a transit map for the next update!

Pps. "The Valley", shown empty on previous region shots is now almost ready to be revealed.

    Cheers!

What's to Come of the Showcase

Hey everybody... I just want to let you know whats ahead, and maybe hear some input about what you'd all like to see.

My plan as of right now is to finish up Cumberland with a few updates, maybe come back to it after a while. There will most likely be some more small towns (Waxby, Whitehall, Darby), a look at Easton, the Lehigh Valley's secondary city, some more roadgeekery and hopefully a transit upgrade... we'll see what comes.

But I've been having the idea lately to start a city from scratch and do something like a natural growth... So soon I'd like to begin a project I'll call:

    Nearly Natural Growth

meaning that I will use mods, bats and even cheats and such to realistically follow a city from its infancy to its end, wherever that may be... I'm hoping to make it interactive and fun and I really want to involve the readers. I would really appreciate any input you have right now as to how I should begin, and I'd like to know what you want to see. I'm not writing this to make empty promises or to draw in readers with said promises... I just want to know what you all would like to see.

Thanks! and please do leave suggestions!

    Nearly Natural Growth, Part One

    Alcesia

    A Little History:

Alcesia, named for the Moose that were extremely prevalent in the marshes to the southeast, was once a tiny fort village far to the north. Now, It is still a small town, but the Agriculture business has recently boomed. Now, Shipping the produce away is causing the town to burgeon. Ships now come just to trade, the port has become that popular, even though it is small. As of now, Alcesia is effectively the North Terminus of the Coastal Highway One, a National Route similar to US Route 1 (that is part roadway, part highway, part expressway). But No 4 lane sections exist north of Alcesia, and the Road is rarely traveled but by locals.

keder- Thanks! Mosaics can convey so much more than a normal pic.

yahari- Thank you! The town won't be small for long...

    Schulmanator- Thanks!

emperordaniel- I know there needed to be at lead a ship there, but I could only find large cargo ships, much too big for Alcesia at the time, but theres ships in this update!

    Roger 51- Thanks!

    FrancisM89- Thank you!

    Alcesia - New Developments

    A quick update.

Alcesia has already grown a whole lot. Several city blocks have been added to the north, eating up farmland. This Overview shows how it has grown:

    overviewi.jpg

Downtown has been redeveloped quite a bit. Business owners are already beginning to build up. The City has also built a Municipal Center, that is a large Fire House and police Station, as well as a Post Office:

    downtownx.jpg

A new church has been built, St. Raphael Catholic Church, to service the new Northern Neigborhood, made up of primarily new Catholic residents:

    churchu.jpg

Also North of Downtown is a new Fast Food Joint, Wendy's.

    wendyst.jpg

Lastly, a new Pedestrian Ramp up to the Fourth St Bridge:

    bridgeaw.jpg

Thanks for visiting! Comment, and such, and I'll be your best friend!
