Glasnost

    HI, This is my first city J so plz tell me if there is anything i should add. I have always wondered what people would say about my cities. Its been awile since i played the game but after seeing all the new bats and mods i had to play again so thx to all of you BAT creaters out there for making this game playable again, all the credit goes to them.

     Now i have been watching the forum and seeing that people want cities that start from scratch with no cheating and little planning. Well this is your city if that. I have used no cheats and no money mods. I haven't even used the U-drive it yet for money. IF i need money i step away from the game for 30 min and let it gather. I also dont plot any big building like all those cities i see that start from nothing but have massive skyscrapers. In some cases i need to plot buildings to make districts such as the warehouse district but i will tell u what i ploted and it will be as little as possible.
    That is all for now so plz enjoy and leave your thoughts. Thx, Mason

Well here its is from the very start. This is the center of Glasnost right at the roundabout. The main st. which is one way goes through tunnels on its way towards the industrial zone.

 <ahttp://img369.imageshack.us/img369/5556/thestart11ax.jpg align=baseline>

 I guess I did a good job so the people gave me a statue which is now located in ther center of town in the middle of the roundabout.

<ahttp://img370.imageshack.us/img370/5728/star44vg.jpg align=baseline>

This is an overview of the town. You can see the center of town and the industial zone which is located on one of the points of the city. The power plant is build on another point on an island.
<ahttp://img370.imageshack.us/img370/3357/start56bf.jpg align=baseline>

This is the main drag in town which leads to the industrial zone.
<ahttp://img370.imageshack.us/img370/4194/startdowntown24nm.jpg align=baseline>

THe people seeing that Glasnost would be a finnacial city in the future put money up to build a planed downtown not far from the center of town and right smack down where people drive to the ind. zone. Good Business.
<ahttp://img370.imageshack.us/img370/2743/startdowntown5kq.jpg align=baseline>

 This is another overview of the center of downtown with a mix of low and med residential spreading from the center. If you look close you can see the rail road the goes under the town to save land. The town has also expanded to the north with a graveyard being built on the water front.
<ahttp://img370.imageshack.us/img370/3600/ovstart26ja.jpg align=baseline>

This is where that train tunnel leads to. It again goes underground to save land.
<ahttp://img383.imageshack.us/img383/9971/peek34th.jpg align=baseline>

This is another pic of central Glasnost some yrs. later.
<ahttp://img383.imageshack.us/img383/1629/peek26ug.jpg align=baseline>

 Since central Glasnost was already built the city needed to expand outward but the people didnot want crosstown traffic flowing through their quiet streets and the city could not afford to destroy homes to make another main st. so the city tunneled the road under the center city coming up on the other side of the new downtown and then leading to the ind zone.
    Also the zoning for this new area between the two one way streets and 1x1 med residential. This area will be know as the crossing becasue of the two oneway roads that needed to cross around the fountain.

<ahttp://img198.imageshack.us/img198/4971/makingpart30pz.jpg align=baseline>

This is a pic of the crossing district after a few yrs.
<ahttp://img384.imageshack.us/img384/32/peek3bq.jpg align=baseline>

Another view of the Crossing district some yrs later with much improvment around the area including city planted trees. Looking from the oppsite side as the pic above.
<ahttp://img198.imageshack.us/img198/9706/niceareaatnight6nl.jpg align=baseline>

Expansion of North Glasnost

    Glasnost needs to expand from its basic roots so the town is starting to expand north. I got alittle ahead of myself last posting and put some of the northern expansion in already. The last three pics on top where part of this expansion including the Crossing District so sorry about this.

The first pic is the road systems being built. This pic was before the Crossing District was built  and is located in this pic just above the round fountian. The freeway goes through a several tunnels and soon the upmost part of the freeway in this pic will go right to downtown.
<ahttp://img301.imageshack.us/img301/1563/undergroundfwexp2zl.jpg align=baseline>

This is to the east of downtown and ithe upmost part of the freeway is where the tunnel connection the northern expantion freeway will be.
<ahttp://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9766/firsthw3px.jpg align=baseline>

The tunnel to the downdown is the most left tunnel in the this pic. This is a new part of town with the same building code as the Crossing Disrtict. It will be much bigger then the Crossing District.
<ahttp://img301.imageshack.us/img301/405/makingmedpart24sj.jpg align=baseline>

Just another pic of the 1x1 residential being built. the train tracks are to mark land for the future monorail.
<ahttp://img301.imageshack.us/img301/484/makingthemedarea3qw.jpg align=baseline>

This is the creation of the first monorail system in Glasnost in the big 1x1 residential zone.
<ahttp://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2333/startofmonorail0gf.jpg align=baseline>

This is an overview of the northern expantion that i have just shown. The tunnel to the south or in this pic the upmost is the tunnel to downtown. The Crossing District is located just alittle south of the round fountain and the larger 1x1 residential zone is taking up most of the left hand side of the picture.
<ahttp://img301.imageshack.us/img301/6394/northernexp4hi.jpg align=baseline>

Another overview pic of the northern expantion. I just wanted to show the ways that people get to work. Out of the pic just to the right keep in mind is that freeway tunnel leading to downtown Glasnost. The one way roads heading for us(or the bottom of the pic) is leading the other way into the center of Glasnost and the oneway roads going under these roads are leading to the downtown giving the people of the big 1x1 residentail zone (can someone come up with a name for this part of town for me?) a fast way to get to work and there is also a monorail for them to take if they choose.

    Nice start 44.gif But what I like is the name of your city - Glasnost 19.gif It sounds quite appropriate for a city without any cheats and plopped buildings, hehe 18.gif

    Good luck !!!

    Downtown Buildup

        Downtown Glasnost has been growing with leaps and bounds.  A new district has grown into the city and the city hall has been added. A very busy transportation hub has been built and the freeway system is halfway layed out.  The Cities pop was 35000-40000 people when these pics where taken.

    Here is the freeway system being built. The road on top that ends might tunnel its way under the water to cross the river. Railroad tracks are to mark future monorail system.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/8314/hw24ba.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is the freeway system done at this point. I want to try to keep the mountains as untouched as I can.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/5325/hw39ea.jpg align=baseline>

    Just another pic of the freeway system south of downtown (city hall will be where that sign is).
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/5038/freewaypic29co.jpg align=baseline>

    This pic is alittle later on. I wanted to show the tunnels of all the transportation networks before the city covers them up. There freeway system that i just completed is there and also the monorail has been expanded into the downtown area. The train that has remained under the city like in the first pics of the city comes out here and then turns to the west to travel under the downdown area.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/4200/transportationtunnels4jv.jpg align=baseline>

    An overview of the eastern part of downtown. The freeway goes underground at the left side to the Northern extended part of Glasnost. Some other things to point out is the mayor's statue intermixed with the freeway walls(between the two oneway roads) and also the interesting intersection with the fountain on the right side.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/2960/ovofchinatownandfreeway7xf.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is a closeup of that intersection. The road leads off to the left might lead into a planned tunnel to a new part of town.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/8357/cinatown15mk.jpg align=baseline>

    The mayor's statue up close.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/8404/mayorstatue28hv.jpg align=baseline>

    This plot of town is to the west of downtown. You can see where the railroad tracks finally come up from underground after going under downtown. This is between the commercial downtown and the intustrial zone.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/6048/westernblocks12bt.jpg align=baseline>

    here is that same plot of land under development.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/5513/easternblocks27hj.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is that area some time later. It is known as the Western Blocks. The area mainly consists of lowincome housing. A new train station has been built and soon became the transportation hub of the downtown area. The train starts at the station then goes underground all the way to the northern part of the city and then goes towards the city limits and out to another town.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/5159/westerndistnow5er.jpg align=baseline>

    Closeup of the transportation hub. This is the end of the monorail where the people transfer to the train or the bus. If you look below the station you can see the bus stations on the sidewalks. Glasnost has just finished the first stage of a new bus system.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/8016/transporthub5gn.jpg align=baseline>

    A shot of the downtown area near night. City hall is built but the city is going through hard times. Little money is going around town at the time right now becasue of a slow economy. The area looks a little stagnant.
    <ahttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/9656/downtownstag4sj.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is a peek of the city about 15 yrs after this expansion. The Crossing district is at central right, Central Glasnost or (Old Town) is near a little dip in the water. You can spot the roundabout by the circle but this is kind of hard to find. Downtown is where all the big buildings are and you can even spot city hall if you look close. The Western Blocks are right above downtown along with the transportation hub. The area at the point is the industrial zone with a twist. More to come on that later, untill then thx.

    WareHouse District

        Glasnost has been expanding west towards the industrial zone. The people are complaning about pollution and noise to close to their homes so the city of Glasnost is going to change the zoneing laws in the area. The city wants a clean and heathy area but still keep the now historic area intact somewhat. The area will consist of convertated warehouse buildings and some clean industies.

    This is the industrial area that has to change. Look at that pollution next the those houses!!!

    A shot of the area in transformation. To the right the freeway has been expaned into the area via tunnel.

    This is the area that the planned freeway and end of a bridge will be built.

    Here it is. The warehouse district is now in full swing after many yrs of planning. The district has some commercial, residential, and industrial zones all mixed up to give this area a different feel from the rest of the city.

    And finally an overview of the Warehouse District along with the fest of the downtown and surronding area. I would just like to say that these pics arn't too impressive yet because the city is still in growth. The Warehouse district and other districts are just being built and take many game yrs to fully develope. Updates will come on a regular basis. Thx, Mason.

    The Made in Oregon building in my warehouse district is by Jtportland. I think its an old download building. You can find it on the STEX file downloads by searching Made in Oregan,

    Excellent things about this update which should be kept up: The building stories and use of public transport.

    Passable things about this update which could be improved: Keep realistic in downtown e.g fill in gaps.

    Bad things about this update which should be improved: N/A

    University of Glasnost

       This update is the building of the University in Glasnost. It is located in the Northern part of the city near the Crossing District. The University of Glasnost has occuped a building near downtown for some yrs but now the University has convenced the city to give them a large piece of land and funding for a new School.

    Here is the site where the planned University will be built. You can see the Crosssing District right above the fountain.
    ubefore4nl.jpg

    The freeway was expanded with most of it underground to save land. The freeway leads to a road which you can see and then goes off to an industrial zone and then to a connecting city. Theres the Crossing District again below the fountain.
    uhighwaysarein9kf.jpg

    Lots of land for the University. 16.gif'); height=15 alt=Insert smilie 16.gif src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/16.gif width=15 border=0>

    Here are some of the major roads that are being placed as a train goes by. Around 6000 people ride the train to a connecting city called Bullet Point which has a major industrial zone.
    <ahttp://img372.imageshack.us/img372/3901/uroadsarein5fm.jpg align=baseline>

    Some time has gone by and the University was built. It was built above the freeway tunnel which you can see the enterence near the community college and the exit in the upper right area of the picture. About 10 yrs have passed in this picture since the University was built and as you can see it is a developing area. More to come on the University of Glasnost in another update.

    At the same time of the building of the University some new highrises went up in downtown. This is located ontop of the little hill that the freeway and monorail goes through in downtown.

    Thanks for the Oregon hint I found it! 1.gif

    The university looks good so far. Even though I don't want to use your oneway - szstem IRL it looks good here, a bit chaotıc but nice.

    These red double-decker cars look like German local trains. Where did you get them from?

    Nice work!!

    @ nardo: If I'm not mistaken, the red double-decker cars are Spanish 'Regio Runner' trains that were uploaded to the STEX only a few days ago; it might have been this week.

    @ masphx: Great transportation layout; I especially enjoyed the interesting freeway interchange with all those loops and tunnels. In fact, I've been planning something like that for a long time, but never had an occasion to put it into practice so far.

        I'm glad you found the Made in Oregon building, it makes a great start to a warehouse district which is something i haven't seen to much of. As for the red double-decker train it is the Spanish 'Regio Runner as T Wrecks said. I had it in my city for only a short while becasue it was to red and stood out in the city way to much. Good idea though becasue im looking for a train that is double- decker but that will not stand out.
         If anyone knows of some good trains plz let me know. Also if anyone knows of some good monorails that are futuristic plz let me know. Thx for all your posts, another update on a downtown development is comeing soon.

    Thanks for the train hint: I'll search it on the STEX.

    If you look for some nice train skin in generall go to www.SimCityCentral.Com - oppie placed a lot of nice skins there! The German Talent skin I am currently using for my CJ is downloaded from there and as far as I remember there are also skins for monorails.

         Hi all, sorry about the lack of updates. I wanted to say it still might be a couple of days. School School School, I go to the University of Arizona in Tucson and I'm having alot of tests this week. I have still been playing the game(too much for a test week) but posting takes alot of time but I'm getting quicker at doing it.
        The City is comming up nicely but im going kind of slow becasue i want each part of the city to mean something so i don't just build an urban sprawl. In the up and comming updates i will show the building of the new rich area of downtown (which filled in that hole), South Glasnost beach, the new finacial district, a somewhat little mexico area, and China town. Well that is all for now, off to study ACCT 210 for now,
    Mason,
    PS, I'm looking for more district or styles to build in my city(Example ChinaTown). If anyone has other ideas of what ot build post a commet. Thx

     Almost forgot, here is a sneek peek of where the city was at this post, you can see some of the new areas.

        Hi all, I have been gone for awile and have just now started to play the City and Region of Glasnost again. Glasnost is starting to expand past its city limits and the city is starting to look nice finally.

    I'M exited that i have lots of stuff to post but I think im tired of posting a step by step city build so I have some questions for you all.

    -Should I continue on like i have been doing, I want to start a new page with less pics to help the load times?

    -Should I just take interesting pics of the city and tell about it?

    -Should i take an overview shot of the city and then have you tell me where you would like a close up picture of a given area.

    -Or something eles?

    Well I guess i want you to grade me on this city journal since it is my first time.
    I will be posting in a day or so so I hope I see some comments to base my post on.
    Thx, Mason.
