Maximizing MacBook Pro/SC4 Experience

Hi,

I guess I'm a bit of a newb.

I've just come back to the game after many years away, only I'm now a Mac user, not a Windows user, and I'm encountering minor performance issues which I gather are not uncommon for Macs and SC4 (which I had to pay Amazon's ridiculous $100 for).

I'm using a 2008 MacBook Pro with a 2.5GHz Intel Core Duo Processor, 2GB 667 MHz DDR SDRAM, and the OS X operating system (Version 10.6.. From browsing the threads on the forum, I gather it'd be a good idea to at least bump my RAM by another 2GB. Or, given the age of my laptop (and I gather it's the old Intel processor that's a large part of the performance issues), would I be better off just shelling out for a whole new laptop, even a dedicated Windows platform just to enjoy the game again?

Any suggestions and/or comments will be gratefully acknowledged.

Well, what issues are you experiencing?

Minor performance errors will happen in both versions of the game, although there are some unique bugs in the Mac version.

Mostly graphics problems--weird tilings (buildings appearing as Picasso may have painted them, magnified see-through road tiles floating above the city at times)--sometimes certain missions end abruptly well before the timer even approaches zero, but the most frustrating would be control issues over the cars and especially helicopters.

Are these the normal performance errors you mentioned?

I've also read that I'm going to have bigger issues when my cities reach 95K. (I'm still learning the SC4 version, so none of my trial cities are that big yet.) Is this true?
