Being a retired systems programmer makes me fairly tolerant of problems during a conversion, but things seem to be coming to Peter's Pretty Pass. Refusals of service have had various excuses including "Oops, the SQL server is not working", "Oops, something wrong with the database", and just plaian time-outs. My network tool set always shows the site is up, but clearly the application is sick.

Is this a programming problem, or a sustainability problem with the new web host? Was moving off-shore a good move?

Quite often these problems crop up in the middle of the day, and in mid-session. Is this an overloading problem?

What, if anything, can I do to help? I am a little obsolete at the nitty gritty level, but I haven't lost my ability as an analyst nor a QA tester.

I do not know if this is the correct section to post, but I would warn that STEX search results are not visible using Opera browser. The page is all blank, except for a banner and a footer.

I did a validation, and this is the result:

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1#result

May this help for someone?

Interesting. I guess I'll stick with FireFox.

In 11.50 it is fine for me.

The validator will not be able to validate the results because to it there has been no search, it just sees "One or all of your search keywords were below 2 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords." and the search page, most sites are not valid nowadays anyway.

Edit: From the validator: ST home = 76 Errors, 2 warning(s)

W3CSS: We found the following errors (531)

Database errors seem to pop up less frequently, but I get time outs way to much. I often have to refresh Simtropolis 10+ times just to load one page because it keeps timing out.

Wonder if this is an indication of the Dallas server is too small for the traffic? If so, they need to upgrade, probably by adding processors.

I'm running Opera 11.50 and I'm getting the same problem as Mroghy. Clearing cache, cookies, etc. didn't help unfortunately.

I am having a problem. When I sign into the site it looks like this.

But when I'm not signed in it is normal.

Do I need any kind of update or something?

I am using google chrome. But that is not the issue because it is the same with Explorer.

Excuse the jumbled mess of merged topics I've made.. :bunny:

Don't worry about it. The remaining topic seems to be trouble with Opera. :ducky:
