Upgrade to windows 7 or downgrade to XP. Vista does not work good and your computer is permanently messed up until you change the OS. Good luck!

Have a nice day!

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Really? I have Vista and it is no worse than any other overpriced OS, all proprietary OSes are rubbish, maybe you should check your Event Viewer and try to diagnose why the application is crashing.

I agree with OcramSeattle. Either upgrade or downgrade (Doesn't matter, both have there advantages and disadvantages), wait for Windows 8, get a Mac, or dual boot Vista and a Linux distro.

Invest in a mac! Great OS and works well. Better than that Vista FAIL!

According the hardware specifications of your computer: upgrade to Win7 or downgrade to WinXP. The same advice as OcramSeattle. Or try to use Linux and run the WinPrograms with Wine.

I am in the Linux camp. It is free, supported, small, fast, and if you get a good version like Mint or Ubuntu built on top of it, you'll feel right at home.

Save your file system to some external medium, wipe out vista with a live CD version of Linux, then you can read your files back. Linux file system quite happily reads windows file systems, and can write them too.

You might want to dual boot, because there is a serious unlearning curve to get shut of all the Microsoft bad things.

Windows .exe's can be run on wine, or with mono if they were created with .NET.
