Plugin growables are difficult. The program's priorities are to build the Maxis defaults and throw in plugins as a part of the randomizing scheme. The defaults outnumber the plugins, and so, statistically, they don't come up very often. One change I would like to see is a change in the picking algorithm to choose each plugin growable at least once as each game stage has room for them. I think it would probably do bad things to the randomizer, which isn't great anyway.

If you are going to allow plugin growables, there should be some way to prioritize them, but then people would complain about not getting the defaults often enough. One of the big problems is that items like Wren Insurance belongs to a small class of buildings, with the result that when that stage is being picked, it is picked too often. There needs to be a larger group of such buildings from which to choose. I guess you could say that the game uses the asbestos rule. It does as best as it can.

You should check the informations of the links, to see the size and the stage of the buildings. For example, one of those buildings is in a 6x6 corner lot. To make this available, all you need is to lay a 6x6 residential zone. Keep the Control button to make the 6x6 size. Also make sure that the zone will be medium or high density. And because it's a corner lot, lay the zone next to a road corner.

It's a little tricky, so get practice ;)

I've had the same problem with those buildings, which is a shame because they are so beautifully done. I have the BSC Maxis-blocking for residentials (and everything else) but I still get them to grow only extremely rarely. The obvious way around it is to use the "building plop" cheat over an already-developed residential area of the same size--but plopped residentials are essentially functionless (no commute, etc).

It would be great if anyone could shed some light on this. Perhaps some minor tweaking in the reader? I'm always a bit hesitant to start messing with stuff I don't understand well there though.

I'll look into it a little further and see if I can figure anything out. FYI, I spoke to SimHotToddy about this problem and he essentially recommended the building plop method. As T-Rex did the lotting and modding he might be able to shed a little light on the matter.
