SimCity4 How To?

I just recently got back into Sim City 4, not deluxe. And i have a few questions.

1. Is there anyway to stop the auto roads when your zoning an area? Its not too bad when doing Industrial, or Commercial. But when Im doing residential, i can only do about 6 blocks at the most before it throws in the avenues. I dont use the avenues, cause i have NO traffic problems at all when i only do roads.

2. Is there a way to turn off disasters? I wouldnt mind the disasters, if it wasnt for the fact that Im getting literally a fire every minute or so, so its totally messing me up when im building something, i end up with a road, or a pipe or something zigzagging through the city.

3. Whats the diffrence between Sim City 4, and Sim City 4 Deluxe?

Thansk SO much to anyone who can help me out. I wanted to go buy the Sim CIty 4 manuel, but no one has it.

Well, I have a few answers:

1. Hold down shift to disable the streets. Hold down ctrl to zone in any size. Hold down alt to switch the orientation of the zone.

2. None that I know of. The only disaster available is fire, so use the smoke detector ordinance and anything that increases fire protection.

3. SC4 Deluxe has the Rush Hour expansion pack, which includes new transportation options (Avenues, El Rail, Monorail). It is, however, a dependency for many of the mods available on Simptopolis, the most important of which is the Network Addon Mod. So if you just have Simcity 4, not Rush Hour or Deluxe, you can't use any of the good stuff here.

Actually, in the SimCity 4 without Deluxe/Rush Hour, (Which is what bradhamboi has) other disasters happen by themselves. The only way to turn them off is to get Rush Hour or Deluxe.

Before you ask, sourcing a copy of Rush Hour will be very difficult. Your best bet is to purchase Deluxe, and put your old copy of SimCity 4 to rest.

2. For the fires (which are really annoying indeed) you can use firefighters stations with a very wide radius (serch in the stex) in order to have a better protection in industrial zones for example.

This is false. SC4 does not have any auto disasters except for fire and riots. Still, you need to buy Deluxe in order to make use of 99% of the stuff available for SC4. Custom content for the original game is as rare as hen's teeth.
