Hello all,

as you may or may not know, I'm an enthousiastic CitiesXL player, and I recently started playing again. I've noticed that the citiesXL forums are a little bit dead now, which is quite sad. But I have an idea which can make the game a lot more fun to play. (I'm not totally sure if this exists already or not, please forgive me if it does)

One of the things that got my excited for CitiesXL when it was released (2009) was the community and the possibility for contests between cities. In the beta (which I played) there were some contests, like the best park, and this really gave me extra motivation to play, and it was a lot of fun. Now Monte Cristo is long gone, and I do not know anything of the new publisher, but it seems to me that this concept of contests is still a very good idea.

So I'm curious how many people who play this game, and are active on these forum, think this is a good idea. And if it is, how can it be organised?

I'd be curious to see what other people create and hopefully get some ideas myself.

I'd like to see some City planning and layout concepts shown off and perhaps some built custom interchanges ... with the current road mods about, some interesting designs have been created so far.

I think there are many possibilities for what kind of contests. City planning, infrastructure, sports complexes, CBD, etc.

We only need more players to participate in these contests, or else it would be a bit boring.

Then there's the question, how are the contests organized?

It can be set up as a topic in a forum. And I think the best way to judge the plans is by a poll.

Any suggestions on this?

SC4 Devotion does a picture contest for Sim City 4. The way they do it is, two members each show a pic, and then other members post which one they think is better, and you keep a running tally for 24 hours after the contest begins.

For example...

If Bob and Joe had a contest, and I liked Joe's pic best, I would post....

I really like your photshopping and the view of the sunset, Joe!

Just an idea of a system that seems to work well. In this way, I guess you could still categories, as well. It's basically the same as your voting idea, IceMan.

Seems a good idea to me. (as it is indeed basicly my idea )

Only problem is still the amount of players.

i don't know if it bothers the other people who posted here, but at the moment, there is just no competetion.

If you think otherwise, please say so.

But even if we have a few contesters, other people from the simcity4 forums could still look it up and vote. But I don't know how to promote such a thing, if you know what I mean.

Yes, promoting/participation is a problem we'd have... but I think it'd be fine to let SC4 players vote.. since we'll need some people. It seems that a lot of people kinda moved to the Focus Home forum site for CXL... that place seems to be pretty active.

I s'pose we could always do a feature on the front page to promote it....if that is allowed.

Well, I guess we should start this!

I'll go ahead and post a pic. I guess we could play to 5, and we can adjust based on how much activity we get. There aren't many rules at the moment, but we can add some as we see necessary... the main goal in my opinion is to get people playing.

So... any challengers?

Well, to be honest the rain was pretty easy. =] I just Googled Photoshop (or GIMP) tutorials for each one, and found what I needed. The lightning took some playing around with though to get that effect. I more or less cut and pasted different sections of different lightning bolts.

And greetings from the other side of the mountain! It's nice when you see someone from your area... there are too many around the site.
