hey im new on the simtropolis society, but ive been playing fo quite a while.

anyway when i found this site i was amazed at how much change i can bring to my game, realistic or extreme, it has really freshend up the experince. anyway some plobale items i downloaded, like this "al;ternative city hall', or ' water purification plant', "urban elementary",i placed it in the plugin folder, and on the game it comes up as a wraped up box displaying - simcity.com in red letterings onits side. CAN anyone help, also some items take up the space but dont have any graphics of the actual builduing(or that box)... i dont know what to do, can anyone help pleaseee. Thank you

When you download something, make sure you read the whole description. Usually after most of the stats and everything there is something called a "Dependency List". This is a list of files that are required for the lot or BAT to function correctly.

Also, when you download something, be sure to check if there is a readme file included along with the download. Reading these usually helps you track down any other files that you need and may have special instructions for installation.

thanks, no offense but i always read the 'read-me' file, and cosider the dependancies or criteria eg. pop. however some of these woould have just the '.lot' file just by itself no bat file, and some of these still work - as in show up properly, and some just take up the space but without the builduing on top of it.( ive fast forwared to allow to grow but nothing happens) are these downloads simply not finished or incorectly made? and aswell does it happen to anyone else where the builduing shows up like a wrpaed up box? i would provide screenshots but im using a different pc atm.

Anyway its not too frustrating, theres hundreds of other builduings to choose from, another question i have is HOW, which program do i need to use to create these builduings, especially functional builduings?

Files that define a lot: .dat (combined features), .sc4lot (may stand alone, but not always), .sc4desc (properties), .sc4model (image of the building). If you download a lot created with the BAT (Building Architect Tool), you need to put any/all of the above in your plugins folder.

Usually, "Brown paper packages tied up with string" represent the programmer's love of the Sound of Music and a missing model file.

It would help enormously if you could mention (and link to) some particular downloads.

For some lots you need the original Maxis buildings as props. Back in the days before the BAT, these were required for almost all custom lots so that people often forgot to mention them as a dependency. Could that be the problem?
