Beach Mod/Terrain Mod height alterations

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could explain briefly how to alter the beach height parameters so that more beach can be displayed, and at a bit higher altitude? Whenever I have a terrain mod installed, very little beach is shown, even at the lowest levels. Is this something I can fix with iLIVE or perhaps the plugin manager? Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with either, so I've been wary of trying much of anything. I could really use some expert advice...

Cheers,

Sharon

EDIT: I was able to get some help on this topic through some PM's, but any extra advice would be wonderful. Cheers!

    Hi :)

You can do this in Reader. You need to open The Terrain Properties Exemplar - TGI: 6524284A, 88CD66E9, 00000001, found either in SimCity_1.dat, or a custom terrain mod. If you choose to edit the one in SimCity Dat, you should copy/paste it into a "blank" dat, so that you keep SimCity_1 unmodded.

Two properties near the bottom are Max Beach Width, and Max Beach Altitude. Width is the distance from the edge of water that beach can extend. Altitude is the height that it can extend. I don't know exactly what the values relate to, they don't seem to be meters or tiles. A value of "0" for both will have you will no beaches, very high for both will be all beach. Not sure what beach would appear on a tile without water, even with very high settings.

Thanks Marsh, didn't want to say "go to Devotion".

@Katharina: changing the properties in my first post should give you what you are looking for. For you, I would say to make the width high, but keep the altitude some what low.

Have tried the endless beaches and love them but it does not seem to play nice with tree mods.

Correct. The tree controller has no connection to the beach (nor cliffs). There is a way to keep god-mode fast and also start at a certain height. Once you have the beach where you want it, and have the Extra Cheats .dll, press Ctrl-Alt-Shift-x and type "terrainquery". This will now have your query tool giving x,z,y coordinates in the tile. Find the highest beach and note the "y" value, which is the altitude in meters. Quit SC4 and re-enter the Terrain Exemplar. Then change the Sea Level property to the height that you recorded from the beach. Then you can re-open SC4 and plop away, you may (will) be plopping over beach, however, the point is that when you are done you will quit SC4 and set the Sea level back to where it was.

If you really want to go wild you would also change the Flora Tuning Parameters. There is a setting here that is the highest altitude above sea-level that a tree will be placed in god-mode. If you increased the sea level, then you may want to decrease this property by the same amount. So, if your tree line was also a snow line, you would maintain that altitude.
