Simcity Highways

I've never been much of a fan of Cars, or any type of transit promoting car travel in simcity, but of course it is neccessary. I am prepaing to build a large city including a highway, and i have been searching the STEX and SC4devotion for some highway addons and facelifts, but have been unsuccessful. Could anyone give me some links, names, sites, or ideas in the making of my highway? I am looking for the following: 1. a highway retexture (the origional grey highway is unrealistic), 2. a avenue to highway connector peice, this would be extremly helpful, 3. Different highway bridges, just too add some better looks to my city. These things would greatly help my highway in the making. I have one question to leave off with as well regarding highways, accualy two. Question 1: why toll booths on highways occationaly appear as "control towers" and Question 2: What the official capactity of a highhway is and if they can ever over croud. (In the scence of the advisor yelling at you to build a better transit system ). All this would help me greatly. -Thanks :)

I believe there is a highway re-texturing mod, that can change the highways from the ugly grey to asphalt. I know some people that will reply after me should know what I'm talking about. Second, you can drag the avenue to the highway (or vice versa), and a Avenue-to-Highway connector piece will show up. The highway of course will go from 3 lanes to 2. Third, there are plenty of additional bridges available on the STEX and LEX. Just look harder. Bridges are hard to create in SC4, from what I've heard, so you won't find a HUGE selection of "aftermarket" bridges.

Now, as for your two questions. First, I've never seen the toll plazas show up as control towers. Second, I've never heard of anybody knowing what the actual capacity of a highway is. When it comes to the road system, the highway is THE top-of-line when it comes to capacity. Are you sure your Trans. Llama is yelling about your streets, roads, and avenues being overloaded? And as a tip, I don't listen to my advisors. I just do my thing. And it works for me. So far, my region has over 8 million residents.

In case you find the Rush Hour Maxis highways too limited, you could get the core Network Addon Mod (unless you already have it for other reasons). That mod includes some additional stuff for the Maxis highways, but it's not gonna be the epic complication the Real Highway Mod is (even if I love elaborate highways to a significant extent, the RHW is still too much work for my gameplay style).

Other stuff you can add includes some props for the highways. Things like tall mast lights and custom signs would be some of the options.

Here's mrtnrln's Highway Restyling Mod.

NAM documentation (section "10A.Traffic_Plugin_Files.htm") installed with the NAM has a table over network capacities. Which by the way is given as 4000 for the Maxis traffic simulator.

Do either of the retexturing mods also apply to bridges, even though bridges dont look to bad with the concrete texture anyways.

I don't think the first one we mentioned do. But I prefer a concrete road deck on a bridge anyway.
