Dogtown, closely followed by Last Chance Highway, both on Animal Planet.  Also sometimes carried by the National Geographic Channel which also carries episodes of Dog Whisperer which is about training difficult dogs.

I also like the Animal Cops series, especially the ones shot in Houston because it tends to have a lot of horse rescues.  No punches pulled, sometimes it is too late and the horses, dogs, cats, ... have to be euthanized.  The successes are inspiring, and you wonder how people can let their animals get in such terrible shape, but I guess it is just human nature to ignore problems until it is too late.  Basically, these shows are police procedural with a twist.

I also like the Animal Vet Intern show from Alameda East.  Great insight into training graduate vets to a deeper level.

Another interesting show is Underdog to Wonderdog.  It is kind of an extreme make over for selected dogs.  The rescue team does a great job, but it is a network show, so how real it is is a good question.

Otherwise, I watch reruns of Star Trek, various flavours.  I am sure all of us have a favourite episode of the old original ST.  Mine is The Trouble with Tribbles.  This is well before the Klingons came out in the later makeup.  May the world never have Tribbles.

I pretty much don't watch "main" network shows.  Most of them are el punko junko.

Oh Larks!  Surely you have better channels than Fox?  I suppose you watch their slanted news too?

Breaking Bad on AMC. Great show.

Second place goes to It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia on FX.

Hmm...Favourite TV stuff...

Probablly the never-ending reruns of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on the internet via Shoutcast. The show gets better the more knowledgable I get. Best joke ever was the comparision of a really bad Sinbad movie to the play "Waiting for Godot"

On Showcase here in Canada I have appreciated watching "Rent-A-Goalie" & "Pure Pwnage." The former for its bizarre mix of genre humour and Canadiana; The latter for the fact that I understand each character in some way or another.

For politics I like CBC's The Hour with George Strombolopolis; who incedentally I met in person once in university where he said something to the effect of the only reality tv show that would engage him would be a show about him being roommated with the Primeminister of Canada and or Don Cherry. I also sometimes am keen on The Daily show and The Colbert Report as well.

For Imported TV I am a big fan of Father Ted and Black's Books.

But with a list like this I surprisingly watch very little tv and it is usually just stuff I can stream onto my computer.

Courage, this, too, will pass.  Meanwhile, doesn't your cable provider give you the Military Channel, National Geographic, Animal Planet and the Science Channel?  Or are you stuck with an Aunt Enna?

The Military Channel is running a colorized retrospective of WW II.  Since you are so blood-thirsty you might like that.  You should broaden your horizons a little.  You never know what you'll see over the next hill.  40.gif

Larks2242: I know everything on TV today may be stupid junk like "General Hospital", "Days of Our Lives", "Rookie Blue", and all of that other stuff that is too much to fit on here... but my own grandparents prefer old movies and Westerns over anything else (all because of PayPerView and On-Demand). I won't even care about violent shows, or anything suggestive.

You'll one day be channel-surfing and find something interesting, more funny, more suitable for your tastes. Possibly the next generation of 24. (and Jack Bauer!!!)

A Nonny Moose: I agree with your opinion, too. I channel-surf a LOT and find something interesting. My grandma tells me that her neighborhood used to have only two channels, 5 and 12. There would probably just be soap operas and the local news. She didn't get satellite TV until several years ago, so am I lucky.

The point of TV is to be entertained why would i watch those channels? To be bored? I'd just play Call Of Duty or something instead.

*laughs to himself* RL example of dramatic irony for the win.

@Larks2242: Not laughing at you but laughing that I predicted correctly the response to A Nonny Moose's play on words. 'Aunt Enna' is not a who but a what.

Hmm... all through university I lived without tv. My first apartment with just me in it I didn't hookup cable; my girlfriend at the time who pretty much lived there was annoyed when I would reject the offer of free basic cable from the cable company. The next place I lived at with roommates 3 out of 4 of us voted against cable and it was not implemented; on the grounds that we would watch tv if it was available but didn't want to on principle even if only 1 person was paying for it. Regardless I did not get regular internet access until after high school when I lived elsewhere than home...at which point home got fully involved in the internet, go figure.

I do like some of the documentaries I stumble upon: I made a special point to visit the catacombs in Paris after seeing the "Cities of the Underworld" and was impressed by both the show and the real thing. Also last year I really enjoyed CBC's "Love, Hate, Propaganda Mini-series" 6 parts based all around the propaganda of WWII; It was very powerful.

@Larks.  I just can't resist a pun, especially one that is 2/3 of a pun (PU).  There was actually a newpaper comic character called "Aunt Enna", and her harido was a Yagi array.  If you haven't got it yet, say it fast, run together.  If you still don't get it, I will have to catalogue it as a Prussian Officer joke.

Sometime, if you visit the Moose Factory, I'll tell you the story of Rudolf, the Red.

@Eye of Mobius:  Chuckle.  I made the same prediction.  The young Americans are so sheltered, eh?

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11
