When you do a uninstall/reinstall, delete all the folders, and files in the Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 folders before you install the game.

If you have a wide screen monitor, be sure to use a custom resolution that the monitor is capable of displaying.

I did that and it didn't work.

    I'll try that again.

    Edit:

It did not work. No amount of vulgarity can explain how this all makes me feel. I do not have a widescreen monitor, in case you wanted to know.

Tungston, would you have any idea on how to go through this dead end?

Matches:  Your dump header shows the game version as 610.  This is the unupdated vanilla game.  You need to at least apply the EP1 patch to the game from the EA site.

You won't find many downloads here anymore that will run with that version.  I suggest you try to find a copy of Rush Hour and install it, then do the updates (EP1, and BATupdate) so that you can use the stuff on this site.  With what you have, you cannot use the NAM, and if you have downloaded and installed it, that is your problem.

Application/module version: 1.1.638.0Thank you for that! If I DO ever get it running. My issue is that I did have a working copy of the game that was using the NAM and other enhancements. I tried to play the game again and had problems, so to try to fix it, I un-installed and re-installed the game, which brought me back to the vanilla. I'll download the patch to see if that works, but theoretically that will just bring me back to where I was before I re-installed.

**UPDATE** I updated and how the file says

    Application/module version: 1.1.638.0

I feel like I'm just being a pest but I absolutely cannot fix this issue. I hit a dead end, a brick wall. I don't understand how this could happen, SC4 not working.

    I need a drink....

Does a clean install of SC4 come with a completely empty \My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins folder? One thing I did do was download some files from the STEX prior to running the game... But even when I empty out that Plugins folder, I get the same failure to launch.

You have to make the Plugins folder yourself.

On topic, I even went so far as to edit the data in the registry for the game.

    img718.imageshack.us/img718/364/sc4reg.png

It said "data not set" before I put the serial code in. Guess what happened what I booted up the game? Nothing.

I might need to poke around in the registry a bit more.

My problem does not refer to SC4 but another EA game. But since this is the ONLY topic i found witch matches the error message i think i can narrow the problem after some research via google.

So my question (and hope): Does anyone of you with that problem use Avira?

Avira could be the problem. I'm using it as well. Maybe it's the culprit?

By the way, which EA game do you have that isn't working? And welcome to Simtropolis!

I un-installed Avira and the game now loads properly! Nice find, john_smith_. Guess I have to find some other Antivirus software.

I'm playing Sims 2 Seasons, and since there seem to be problems since the last Avira Patch (developer enviroments have most problems) I think it is the source, it would also explain why it worked yesterday.

There is a workaround until they fix it, at least they say its one (i tried to translate it):

    1. disable auto-update

    2. Goto Common->Security (make sure expert mode is on)

    3. Rename "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\avipbb.sys" to avipbb.sys.bak"

    4. Reboot and reactivate (2.)

I can't try it yet (or at least for 1 hour 2.gif

Ah well. The game works now. So THAT was the hidden problem.

I'll PM CaptCity to lock this now that it's solved.

Avira?  Is that a newer virus scanner?  Never heard of it before this thread.  I use clamav, which I am not sure operates on windows.  Anyway, one for matches.

Good, now you need to get to 1,1,640,1 which is the version that includes the BATupdate.  You'll find it on the BAT download page.  You don't need the BAT, but you should also download the Lot Editor that is there as well if you intend to fool with BAT lots.  The BAT update gives you night lights in BAT models.  You don't need it if you never run night scenes.

Nope.  Avira is new to me.  I always used McAfee, and I paid for it.  Now it is not available for my system.

Just a little feedback for the ones suffering from the Avira issue: I had the same problem - the Avira engine got some new data not allowing the game to load. Everything had been fine before Dec, 4th. I had tried to solve the issues for the last 3 days and only stumbled over this thread by accident. I removed Avira 2 hours ago and got another Anti-Virus-Program and everything's fine, again 4.gif)

    Thanks for your help

    and take care everyone,

The Avira bug now seems to be fixed. My game started this morning without any problem even though I hadn't renamed the avipbb-file as explained above. So for all of you out there who were still using Avira despite of the bug but got used to rename that file before playing, it seems like you don't have to anymore and can play again as you initially used to.
