My game disc became worn so I decided to download SC4. Legally! lol Well, I don't know if this is the reason but ever since i downloaded it, every time I place a form of transportation (rail, road, street, avenue, highway, rhw pieces, etc) my game lags. It also lags even more when I bulldoze them. I don't know what is causing the problem. Thanks in advance.

If it is downloaded illegally, then the moderators will shut this thread down. As for your problem, I really can't help you.

Insuffiencient information.  Please describe your machine.  Also describe this download you have, and how it relates to the game.

I do believe I said legally. Anyways @A Nonny Moose, it worked fine in the disk version before I bought the download version. However, here are my machine descriptions: AMD Athlon Dual-Core ql-60 2.0 GHz, RAM- 2.00 GB, 32-bit OS, Nvidia GeForce 8200M G.

In addition, what I mean to download is my game; not any plugin i might have installed. I bought the game from the official EA website.

Do you have any plugins installed (particularly NAM or related items)? The type of lag you're describing could be related to pathing issues if something is installed incorrectly. Just a thought...

Yes I do. When I first downloaded the game, I used the same plugins I had when I used to play with the disk. (I uninstalled the game for a while.) I had the same problem so, I decided to remove all of them and start all over. My first plugins where the NAM, RHW, NWM, and the SAM. I had no problems then. So I doubt its caused by any NAM team mods. The strange thing is lags more in some parts of my city than in others.

Also, I barely re-started the game so I have no cities, therefore, I doubt it's due to having a big city.

Are you saying that with a newly installed downloaded version of the game with only the NAM, RHW, NWM, and the SAM in the plugins everything works (sorry if I'm misunderstanding)? Then when you add other items, the issue appears? If so, are you able to determine what specific item you added when the problem arose?

Yes, that is what I mean. Im not sure if the problem could be caused by a terrain texture (I currently have the Olympic terrain mod) or something else.

    If I might review:

You have an onboard version of the game that is an ISO disk archive (from which you can run, I've done it), and have updated it to build level 638 at least, and probably to 640.

The NAM team mods work fine.

When you add certain other mods your game slows down drastically.  You have yet to determine which mod is the root of the problem.

    Futher testing:

If you haven't done it, create a sandbox region in the game.

Remove all the mods you don't have any reason to trust to some other folder.

Put them back, one by one, testing in your sandbox until you find the one that does the dirt.  At that point, you should talk to the authors.

With that machine, you should not have any problems.  However, if you've been running in Cheetah mode, slow down.  Cheetah is really only for short bursts to get some particular thing completed, IMHO, and Rhino allows you to enjoy more of the features of the game, like the excellent animation.  Running in Cheetah is like trying to study a flower in high-speed stop motion.

Oh, and if you want to add a line to your most recent posts, please use the edit button.  Multiple posts waste server space.

And, just in case this is a hardware problem, try setting the affinity of the game to one CPU.

EDIT:  An additional thought.  When was the last time you defragmented your disks?

Thanks for the help! I will defragment my disk. I don't know if it makes any difference but a while ago i rebooted my computer to factory settings so I don't know if that is necessary. Also, I have way too many plugins and dependencies now to go one by one so, I might just start hunting all over again. : ) The odd thing is that it's only with some of the transportation pieces like the rail and road. No other thing causes lag to my game. Well, thanks again. Quick question, since I have a download version of the game, is there a way I can uninstall and re-install the game without having to buy it again? Maybe that will fix the problem.

If you have a lot of plugins, you will have to use the bisection technique to identify a bad plug in.

Remove them all, and make sure the game doesn't lag.  You might be best running in the sandbox for this.

Now divide the plugins in half, and put back any half.

Run another test.  If no lag, put back half of the remainder and test again.

If you now have lag, remove the last set, put back all the rest.  The problem is isolated in the remaining set you have.

    Now proceed by halves again.

if you have on the order of 1,000 plugins, this will take about 9 tests to find the guilty party.  This is called a binary search and the number of tests is the power of the nearest power of 2 larger than the number tested.
